Back in the late 70's and early 80's we were very heavy in truck and tractor pulling. I used to build various configurations of FE's from 390-432 inches and spin them up around 9000 rpm +. When they made the "big noise" the results were catastrophic. When these engines went south you were lucky to salvage the intake manifold. I had 1 motor with lifters jammed behind the flywheel. I wouldn't spin one with stock type components any higher that 5500 or how much $$ you can afford to spend, or whichever comes first.
