its the original i fear--built in '93. probably mechanical.

Mechanicals generally have a tube that is protected by spiraling wire that looks like this:

yep, that's what i got. word is that it is probably shot. after some research it seems they are not that dependable. i have a supply just down the road here in south minneapolis. 135 for a new one. damn.

The replacement is not that bad. Now I don't know CC dashes, but if it's pretty close to my ERA you just remove the dash screws, pull the dash forward a couple of inches, first try and go in from beneath while on your back with your head down by the pedals and your feet over the top of the seat, if you can't do that then go in down from the top with your hand to remove the screws from the back of the gauge, remove the fitting from the manifold, then snake the whole contraption through the grommet in the firewall. Do the opposite to install the new one. It sounds harder than it really is.
