Default Contemporary Factory Fuel Cell

Recently, I was fortunate to find and acquire a factory fuel cell for my Contemporary. I thought that before I install it, there may be some folks who might like the dimensions off of it to fabricate one similar. By my calculations it should hold about 21.7 gallons. This appears to be the same cell that was on CCX 3209. I will soon have the straps that held that cell in place and will be able to provide those dimensions also. If anyone is interested, let me know. Otherwise, I'm just going to install it in my car.

I would think Nick aka "Mickmate" would like to add this to his repertoire of Cobra parts. Is this a true cell with a bladder or just a fuel tank?

Hey Dan, it looks like you'll have to cut a removeable panel to be able to install a bladder. Do you think you have a source for a bladder that size and shape or are you going to custom make one? The tank that I got dimensions from in Dave's car has a bit of a kick up at the front bottom but otherwise looks very similar. Is there anything on the front or bottom of that tank? I would be interested in comparing your tank dimensions to the ones I've been building. My dimensions and hardware list is available for anyone interested like CCX1984 also.
Cheers Nick

Nick, I think I sent the dimensions from the tank that was in 3209, but I'll make a drawing of this one and post it. As for a bladder, there is some stuff that you spray into your tank that bonds with the side wall and forms a leak proof bladder. You spray some prep into the tank and let it cure, then spray the second compound in and let it cure. Before you know it, instant fuel bladder. I don't know everything I need to find out about this stuff yet, but it was developed for repair in aircraft fuel cells and seems to work quite well. I'll know more soon. I've spoken to a couple of systems engineers at work and they are both familiar with it. Seems it's used extensively by the military for repairing battle damage. I'll let you know about it when I figure out what's up. Otherwise, Fuel Safe is going to be expensive.

They quoted me about $2.5K for lining the big 42. Sounds like a good option if it is available and works.

Well, I have the dimensions but it's done in Power Point. If you can open it and read PP, let me know and I'll send it off. Otherwise you'll have to wait until after I go back to work and can run it through PDF Gun..

Dan: This looks like a tank that was built for Contemporaries back in the day by ATL Fuel Cells. They stopped making them sometime after Contemporary went out of business. As a MacHead, Powerpoint works for me. Please email me what you have at bigrich1@mac.com. Mickmate, this might be the optimal size for our beasts. Also, ATL make a variety of accessories that you may want to use, like roll-over valves, pickups, etc. What do you think? Rich

Sent as requested. I've also sent an email to ATL Fuel Cells asking about information. THanks for the tip. I'll pass along anything of interest I find.

Hey Dan, it looks like they used 2 pumps (main and reserve) with a return and vent on the 2 small fittings. You'll probably want a blank plate over one and sender in the other. It should just be a matter of making an adapter plate between the hole and sender. I would recommend the inductive tube type senders from Centroid for it. Do you have a manual pump on the motor or an electric?
Rich the CCX tanks I've been making are 40" wide so are bigger capacity than this 36" I believe. Jeff has been under his car and sketched up a SC/Comp style tank for the CCX's that will have the look from underneath and some considerable capacity as it kicks out behind the rear wheels like this one http://www.clubcobra.com/classifieds...t=1629&cat=500
If you're interested in the dimensions for that one let me or Jeff know I'm looking at building 2 like this already.
