% bolt 289 and automatic tranny

Hello David,

I have a 5 bolt 289 with a four speed. Are there any options for mating this motor to an automatic transmission? Were there any autos with the proper bolt pattern? Thanks.

Some early Mustangs had C4 automatics with 5 bolt engines. The bellhousing on a C4 is a separate casting, so, if you can find the 5 bolt C4 bellhousing, you can put it on any similar early C4 transmission. They are kind of scarce, but they DO exist.

Hi,
A place like Art Carr will install a SFI certified bellhousing on a C4 or C6, and I think they may even be able to match an AOD to it,give them a call.It's not cheap, but then you get what you pay for.

Look at Falcons also. The switch over was in 64/65.
