I'm not sure why the DMV is giving you a problem with registering it here in Florida...

I can send you a copy of the documents we use (in FLA) to register our Cobra's.
Mine is registered as a 1965 Cobra replica.

I can fax you a copy if you e-mail me your fax number.

Lastly, and yes I'm plugging my event, but are you aware of the Reptile Roundup in November?
