Default 24 Heures De Floride April 24-26th 2009 run down

The Deep South Cobra Club hosted their first 24 Heures Tour De Florida in April 2009, which was a three-day Cobra tour of Florida with a number of stops and different Cobra groups leaving from all areas of Florida, with all ending up at Old Town at 5pm in time to join the Saturday Nite Cruise. I started out with our southern group at the Ale House for lunch on Friday at the new Gulf Coast Mall. We had planned on traveling across the state on route 41 but because of a very large seasonal brush fire on Alligator Alley we decided to travel north and avoid all the smoke and drive across on route 80 to our dinner and Friday night lodging stop in Fort Lauderdale at the Crowne Plaza. On Saturday morning we made our first stop to see our friends at Backdraft Racing and Reg Dodd and family had coffee and donuts for all plus a few surprises in some new vehicles for sale including a few of their newest acquisition the CAV GT40 replica. We then headed north to Melbourne to meet up with additional Cobras and have lunch at Carrabba’s Italian Grill. At our different stops we had a few Cobra owners stop by and say hi but not continue with us for the entire 24 hour trip but at our final stop in Kissimmee at Old town I counted 50 Cobras one Shelby Tiger and a Superformance GT40 in attendance. Sunday morning we had their continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn located right behind the Old-Town Saturday Nite Cruise location. The part I like best is meeting up with many old friends and meeting many new Cobra owners and making new friends.

What a spectacular event. Kudos to those that organized it. It's great seeing old friends and meeting new friends. My favorite part was spending all that time behind the wheel driving with folks that enjoy the drive as much as me.

Default Awesome Event!!

Cathy & I had a great time on our first official serious Cobra outing. 550 miles door to door without a hint of a problem with the car!! Great time and great people we met. Can't wait till the next time. If I figure out how to post pictures I will get some up here.

We had a great time and couldn't ask for better weather! Thanks to all that made it such a positive event. I can't wait for the next time. I agree, there's nothing like seeing a line of cobras in your rear view mirror.

Here is the link to the photos that we were able to take. Just look to the left of the screen and doublclick on The "Tour Of Florida" directory.

We need to make this an annual event!

We had 3 local Cobra owners join us at the Ale House for lunch Tim, Ric, and Bob all with their Cobras but their trip ended there and they missed a great time. We had a few mishaps Jim Pomroy needed a new rocker arm cover gasket that was leaking but after purchasing a new one at Pep Boys he fixed it in the parking garage at the Crowne Plaza and finished the tour. We had 2 others with mishaps Jim Milliken had his 460 oil pan spring a leak out of a broken weld on his oil pan which ended his tour and Charlie lost his drive shaft on our way over to Backdraft which also tore up the end of his transmission which ended his tour although I did see Charlie and his wife at the Comfort Inn at Old Town later in the day. Charlie had his cell phone and had called 4 different places for a Tow-Truck but had no success because they couldn’t pick up any cars on the freeway, he finally had to join Triple A and they sent a truck out to help. Door to door my trip was 568 miles.

Here is a picture of my wife Jean on the right side of this picture just after she got her bear hug from Manny Lopez I had to wait for my hug until we entered Old Town.

I'd like to thank everyone who had anything to do with putting this event together. We had a great time seeing old friends meeting new friends. All the pics are great. If Jim Pomroy is reading this my nose is getting better.

I had a great time at this! Met lots of new people and saw old friends from before.

I hope Jim’s oil pan was not too much of a pain.

I have to thank Jim Pomroy for the route to Sarasota, as someone described it “a spirited run!”

Also Wayne from Tangible Toys for the route to Ft Meyers.
