can I just get the CLIFF's NOTES version ? Bill.

ToyCollector 10-18-2004 08:56 PM

Sure.

1. Not sure of the Gross Proceeds. We have no books to go on. Net to CF according to a post on Page 1, from direct info from CF by poster. Cannot verify authenticity of info, but will take it at face value for now.

2003 --- $66,480.00
2004 --- $ 8,000.00

2. Keep it simple and have people show with charitable contributions done when they show for Fling 5.

I haven't done a CLIFF's NOTEs before, but those are my notes so far.

ToyCollector 10-18-2004 09:05 PM

P.S.

When I say page 1, I have my settings set to display the max # of posts per page. So it is page 1 for me, it may not be for you. Might be a good time to re-read the thread before you respond then BTW.

PatBuckley 10-18-2004 09:06 PM

3. DV is typing up an answer and from how long it is taking I would figure it to be at least 3 pages long.

:)

MidOHasp 10-18-2004 09:11 PM

Pat, that is a footnote, not part of the Cliff's Notes.

Duh.

I guess I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to read this thing. I've been anxiously awaiting since Sunday and haven't gotten anything done since. Missed work today, even!

Just kidding......... :)

clayfoushee 10-18-2004 10:14 PM

TC, you made the point very well.......hope it's received by all.

Turk 10-18-2004 11:33 PM

Why the drama?

Ed,
Why not repond in short bursts so folks can respond back? Why the hype?
"I will respond!"

"I am writing!"

"Pretty soon?"

"You just wait and see!"

This is exactly what drove me up the wall the last couple of years. There was always this, "Can't talk about it just yet", "Got a big surprise", "As soon as I can, I will tell you", aspect of the Fling planning by it's nature was exclusionary unless you became an attendee, to see what Ed had cooked up for you.

Can't we get past this?
I don't know about 180 pages, but there has been some good and some pointed posts in here. Why not deal with the folks concerns and suggestions as they develop, rather than asking them just to wait to see what you have for them in the form of a response.

If you would take a few minutes you can deal with it easier than waiting 4 months after the Fling to talk to us.

I don't care about charity, the money and all the other evolved ancillary features of the Fling. All I am interested in is, will there be a Fling 5 ? Will you allow or welcome input and direction from folks who have indicated a desire to have a hand in organizing this thing? That is all I care about!

NEXT... on AS THE COBRA TURNS

Seriously...

Thank you, Turk.

Mike Braatz 10-19-2004 11:45 AM

ToyCollector--- I'm the one who posted the amounts given to Cystic Fibrosis by Ed --- Cystic Fibrosis, in Columbus gave me those figures. Ed later posted that he gave them $12,000.00 not the $8,000.00 that they are claiming.

Turk and D. Semko -- it is my opinion -- that as a group, we must be concerned about financial responsibility when our names are attached to any financial commitment. Let me explain -- if some Cobra Club in Wa-Wa Washington has a fund raiser and raises $1,000.00 for Cystic Fibrosis they need to be assured that their $1,000.00 went to Cystic Fibrosis. That money must go to that charity. It can not be used for any other purpose--- if the monies or checks are written to The Spring Fling, thats different. That money can be spent on the Fling and what ever is left over can be donated to who ever Ed wants-- That's fine. Simko indicated that if someone wanted to find out where the money went we could find out, someone could dig through the record (my words). This should never happen --if a financial statement was issued 30 days after the event we would not be having this debate-- period-

To make the covert -- overt - It is my opinion that some are upset with Ed for "raffeling" off his Cobra instead of accepting a donated car, IE. Shell Valley has offered us a car for the past four years. One problem here is to many rumors --- no one know's for sure what happened. I've heard Ed received anywhere from $35,000.00 to $50,000.00 for the car-- I've heard that a small amount of money was raised on the raffel. That the monies raised for CF had to be spent to cover the cost of the Cobra. Ed has every right clear up the rumor mill -- as you guys know they (rumors) can be very distructive. Ed, please put an end to the rumor mill. The only way you can respond is, if the issues are on the table and I think it is very unfair, to you, if we are not upfront.
I'm sure you have nothing to hide and in all honesty, we (me) have not been upfront with you.

Finally, when some say the amounts given to CF are not important and they could care less,-- that's crazy and fiscally irresponsile. If it is not important-- let's quit being in the fund raising business--however, as long as we are -- we must be accountable. Side thought, take some of the money and hire a CPA or accountant-- to oversee and do the books--then at the conclusion of the Fling -- wala -- it's a done deal and very clean.
Again, I really hope this helps clear the air---

Ok-- Guys -- the purpose of this post is to clear up any questions.

Mike

Turk 10-19-2004 01:30 PM

Mike,
I'm the one who said I didn't care about the money or the charity. I'm NOT crazy.

Others are concerned about what happened, how much went to charity how much went to expenses, what did the car sell for, how much extra money raisd from the ticket sales etc.

Others have asked those questions, and I 'm sure Ed will repond in due time.
My concerns and interest mosty centered around the organizational aspects of this event.

Long before Ed came to tell us what his plans are, others already have chimed in telling me and others this is Ed's event and I have a choice to attend or not to attend. That is absolutely true, and I will keep that in mine as soon as I hear Ed saying that.

The money.....is not mine, the charity is not one of my choosing. The finances around Flings is not my concern. It would be nice to get a full accounting of what was spent on what, but I really don't care.

I am just looking at some future date, if Fling will be part of my travels and planning.

As it is, it is NOT.

TURK --
I HOPE ED CONTINUES WITH THE FLING.
I HOPE YOU COME BACK TO OHIO AND ENJOY THE FUN AND ACTIVITIES.
I HOPE WE CAN PUT ALL OF THIS BEHIND US.
I KNOW YOU AREN'T CRAZY -- I HOPE YOU DID NOT TAKE IT LITERALLY.
I THINK I'M THROUGH RESPONDING TO THIS POST.
IN OTHER WORDS, I'VE SPOKE MY PIECE--
"GOOD DAY"

MIKE

Mike Holt 10-19-2004 04:46 PM

I hope the few of us that have responded don't spin this thing so far that there won't be a Fling V!!!!!!!!!

GOCATS 10-20-2004 06:44 AM

I think one of the greatest things about being in the cobra family is that everyone gives his/her input into a particlar subject whatever that maybe. But after everything is all done and said we are still family in the truest since o fthe word. Family is not necessarily what is in your blood it is what is in your heart. I think we all have proven that before and will again. DV as I know you are reading this... We are only trying to make things better and Please remember that. Like what was said before.. If you build it we will come.

This will be my final post until I have answered all the questions comments. In no way am I trying to build up 'suspense'! I'm sorry for taking the time to go through all of this, but I feel it is absolutely necessary.

TURK:
"All I am interested in is, will there be a Fling 5 ? Will you allow or welcome input and direction from folks who have indicated a desire to have a hand in organizing this thing? That is all I care about!" (Partial quote taken from the previous page.)

Amazing comments really. Will I allow...welcome input? All I can do is read this and shake my head in disbelief. Will there be a DVSF V. I guess that too will depend on the suggestions and comments that are sure to be forthcoming.

I've calmed down since original post:MECOOL:

klayfish 10-20-2004 07:47 AM

DV,
I sure hope your e-mail address as registered with ClubCobra is right, I just sent one to you.

There will be plenty of comments and suggestions. You know what they say about opinions.... I think the majority of people want a DVSFV. Myself included. We come for the fun, people we've met and the cars. There was a group of about 10 of us from the area last year, and it was a blast to hang out together and get to drive the cars. That's what it's all about. I really like the K.I.S.S philosophy. Seems to work best for me. Besides, no matter what is planned, not everyone is going to be happy with everything. That's just they way it goes.

MidOHasp 10-20-2004 08:04 AM

I may have said this once already, but it bears repeating...

NEXT... on AS THE COBRA TURNS

The drama being created here is incredible. I simply don't understand the concept of adults asking other adults questions and then the "big response" is delayed 4 days minimum, sure to be pages long, with periodic updates as to the progress of the book.

While putting on the Fling is probably not terribly simple, answering most of the questions asked really should be unless "we" are beating around the bush, here...

PS... I, TOO, want a DVSF V and WILL BE THERE!! Regardless of how it is run. I just want to see a bunch of friends in one location. Hard to skip out on something like that when it is basically in your backyard. But I'll be there with bells on if "we'd" just answer some of the really simple questions that have been posed.

Hotfingrs 10-20-2004 08:16 AM

Steve, (Klayfish)

Do you have a wiretap on my phone? I just got off the phone with DV, and almost word for word, that is exactly what I told him....

PatBuckley 10-20-2004 08:17 AM

Ed,

I must have missed something.....I fail to see what is so "amazing" about that comment and to that end, I think it is time to start speaking plain English.

While many questions have been asked and many suggestions made, I think it is fairly clear what the basic "issues" are.

Addressing them sooner than later would be more beneficial to you - do you remember the Shelby thread? The one where all manner of accusations were made regarding Shelby's alleged mis-dealings with his Childrens Fund charity? This has all the earmarks of the same thing and until you answer the questions in a forthright manner, as Wayne Stoker did back then, the postings will continue.

I am assuming that you do have answers to the questions.

Pat Buckley

Turk 10-20-2004 08:54 AM

I am both honored and puzzled that, out of pages and pages of posts only mine warranted a cryptic response.

If this entire discussion is reduced to you shaking your head in disbelief, and many other shaking theirs, so be it and it probably makes my point better than I was able to.
Thanks Ed.
