Default Crotch belt Install in an ERA

I have been getting around to installing the crotch belt on my restraint system since this past winter . Have a question for any ERA guys that have installed the 5th belt in the late 427 SC chassis . My chassis has a frame member right where I need to drill a hole in the floor under the seat to install the belt anchor . Doug at ERA gave me one solution where I attach it to a 3/16" cold roll bar that is connected to the seat frame , however , I would prefer to attach it to the floor with a backing plate if possible .
How did you guys do it ?? Any suggestions are welcome .

Thanks ,
Bob

Hey Bob,
I installed mine in the floor where there is a steel brace running perpendicular to the frame. The last owner had it installed further up with very large flat washers (2 1/2" with 3/8" hole)on both sides. I do have the Kirkey vintage seats so my belts come up through the seat. I've also seen guys install the washers then rivet the washers together? The biggest thing is to try and get it as close to a support or something pretty firm. Yes it needs to be attached to the floor. I used eye bolts with Impact clip on clips. Nice stuff! Speedway Motors sells a lot of good hardware too. Matt

Drill the floor directly under your butt. I used a 2" strap from the original harness (now have 3") with the strap's steel attachment that went on the bulkhead.

Under the floor I used 4" square steel plate, 3/16 thick. Install grade 8 bolt from top and use stover nut on bottom. Be sure to use a washer under the bolt head so the belt can swivel slightly.
