Default ERA 427 leather spats

I have these spats I got with another car a long time ago (never installed), but they came with no instructions and I'm not certain they are the same ones that ERA sells. I have the ERA instructions I found online, but when test fitting these, they don't seem to fit the contours of 488 well. Perhaps there was a running change, or these are some sort of generic spat? Any insight from these photos?

Thanks

Hey Troy,

Did you call ERA and see what they can tell you?

I've had real good success getting info straight from them.

Troy

Just finished my 45th (9 weeks) of radiation treatments.

I have a follow-up appointment in one month and hope to know more (success/failure) then.

Having a blast with #446,

Phill

Phil - hang in there. You are a tough dude, and I pray you get through all this. I hope the Cobra provides you with much needed driving therapy when you are feeling like crap.

Hi Troy - those appear to be ERAs. They do seem to fit a little off. I don't have a good close up of mine but you can see how they fit here.

I take it you have not installed the Velcro strips in the wheel wells and the snap to the bottom floor pan yet to secure the lower flap?

Seems I remember that ERA had a running change in the rear flare and it may be they had to re-shape the spats a little as a result.

Dan, the leather tab area for the top fastener appears much narrower on my set, resulting in a large gap as it approaches the door. Yours appear to fit much better, but I have NOT tried installing any of the fasteners yet or velcro. Just a test fit, and it seems off to me.

I can take some close up pictures of mine this evening and post. You may need to talk to Jack at ERA and see if he knows if there was a change in the spats over the years.

Not for nothing but why would you not simply go with a clear film solution ? A far better result IMHO.

I'm not completely sure what, but leather spats just calls to mind something other than a Cobra. I kind of agree with Tim.

There is something a bit more authentic and period correct to the look of the leather spats that seems to "fit" with certain cars. A dark colored street 427 comes to mind (: It's all for fun, right?

That would be great - thanks. When you use your top, do you simply leave the top snap unused where the spat resides? Do the underside details match what is shown in my photo?

Yes, on my black car they are really not very noticeable.

I had my top on two winters - the first one I removed them. I do have the lower portion of the rear flare covered with clear film. The second winter I left them on and just let the top run across the spat extension and of course I couldn't fasten the top to that lift-a-dot. The one closest to the door typically secured the top OK. A couple times I kind of bumped the edge of the top getting in or out and it came unsnapped - but that might happen either way.

Hey Troy - it might be easier if you PM'd me your email and I can email you the photos. Seems I have over-taxed my Photobucket account and I'm not about to pay the blood suckers $30 bucks a year for 10 times the storage it took me 13 years to use up.

My Spats are quite a bit thicker in width up near the top of the fender than yours. Must be some sort of change made by ERA.

Here are some photos - opened a new storage place.

Dan,

That's exactly what I needed to see. I'm sure the ones you have would fit my car MUCH better, so I'm going to abandon trying to use the ones I have. I doubt they are from ERA. They don't look much like yours at all - other than the installation and fitting procedure.

Thanks!
Troy

Possibly not ERA - I forgot to mention that on the back side of mine I added strips of self adhesive backed felt on the edges and to pad the area around the lift-a-dot snap to protect the paint. That gives the back side a little different appearance from how they looked as received from ERA.

Troy

Had them on my old CCX.
They are easy to install and add to the look.
