I took my cobra in last week for a 4 wheel alignment and I was told my rear alignment is out by approx 5mm (1/4 inch). ie, it is crabbing down the road...
He said it would take a full day to align.
He suggested that I do the adjustments myself.
It is a series II Jag rear end.
I noticed that where the lower arm (dog bone) is bolted to the diff housing (shaft) is where the 2 bolts are used to adjust with shims.
Problem looks like I'll have to take out these shafts to access the 2 bolts.
However if the lower arm is off how do you then adjust the angle without the arms on?..
Would appreciate your help in advising me on how to properly align the Jag rear end..ie methods, reference points for measuring etc..
The original Jag (and the ERA) use a subframe that determines alignment. The shims that you speak of are used to align the brackets with the non-adjustable holes in the subframe, so the arms aren't on when we install the shims.
You may be able to get an open-end wrench between the bracket and the pivot shaft. If you can't, you're going to have to figure out the shims necessary without the arms. I hope you kept the exact toe specs from the alignment shop.
I'll have a look to see if I can get an open ended spanner in there.
I know 1 bolt head is easy to get to..but the other seems to be recessed (don't know why).
I do have the spec sheet from the aligner..trying to decipher the mumbo.....maybe I should email it to you?...
