Filling the tank
I'am having trouble filling my gas tank- the the fill tube does not see to take the gas fast enough - making the pump nozzle shut off. At the present rate it takes 20 min to fill the tank.
Have any ideas to speed things up?

Your vent hose (the part of it that goes inside your tank) is too long. The hose is supposed to let air out of the tank. If it is too long (under the gas as it were) then it cannot let air out and you are in an airlock condition. So the first thing to check is to make sure that the length of the vent hose in the tank is not too long and make sure it is not crimped either.

THE SHOP I BOUGHT MY KIT FROM TOLD ME TO INSTALL A GAS FILTER ON THE VENT LINE. IT WOULD TAKE ME 20 MINUTES TO FILL UP. I REWORKED THE FILL TUBE TO TAKE SOME OF THE CURVE OUT, BUT IT DID NOT HELP. I REMOVED THE FILTER AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. THIS GUY BUILDS AND RACES FORD DIRT TRACK CARS (AND COBRAS).
SOME TIME YOU ASK THE RIGHT PERSON, THE RIGHT QUESTION AND YOU GET THE WRONG ANSWER!!

I had the same problem, but then after a few times figured out a way to do it. You can't squeeze and let it go until it fills b/c, like you noticed, it will shut off. What you need to do is the following: Stick the pump nozzle two or three inches into the tank, pull up the rubber around the pump nozzle a couple of inches, tilt the pump nozzle back about 20 degrees, and squeeze the handle on the pump about halfway down. It takes a little longer to fill than your daily driver to fill, but not bad. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to fill it while squeezing the pump handle almost fully.

I'm inclined to agree with those that suggest your gas tank vent line is obstructed. I can fill my tank as fast as the gas pump can spit it out. I have car 629 and I know ERA made a change to the gas tank filler system shortly after my car was produced. Maybe there's some other problem with your newer design.

Check to make sure your vent is not crimped.

Silly Thought....
I was just wondering (I hate it when I wonder...  ) if the vent line is submerged or crimped thus not allowing air to exit or enter the tank. ....
Then when the car engine is running... would not this breather lock condition also hamper fule pump efficiency? In other words if it is slow going in would it not also be slow going out as well?
Just wondering...

We changed the fuel tank design around 640 so that the filler neck on the tank was on the side of the tank, not the top. The vent was moved to the back of the tank at that time.
The slope of the vent line is small toward the tank end, and therefore fairly sensitive to getting blocked. If you inadvertantly get fuel into the vent line, it might take a few seconds for it to drain back down into the tank. Just be carefull to avoid getting fuel into the vent in the first place.
