Default cooling fan not running

My cooling fan isn't running when the engine gets up to temperature. It ran ok when I first bought the car, but it hasn't worked the last couple of times I've had it out. I can use the fan switch on the dash and it works fine. I suspect it's probably the temp sensor in the lower radiator hose but I wanted to pick your brains before I order a new sensor to see if any of you have run into a similar problem that turned out to be something other than the sensor. I haven't looked but was wondering if the fan dash switch and the temp sensor both run the fan through the same fuse? Any ideas appreciated.

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, I overheated. I forgot I had the manual switch on the dash and had to stop and buy VERY expensive bottled water while pulled over in Central Park. Sent my girlfriend to the local hot dog cart for the water

The guys in the horse drawn carts laughed of course, but the best was the woman who, while seeing my girl deliver several bottles of "Avian" bottled water, said "Oh look, they only use the best water for that cute car".

I'd be happy to know how to get that relay fixed also. VERY embarrassing....

D Ford,

Touch the two leads going to the thermoswitch together. If the fan starts, it's the thermoswitch.

If your switch is a single wire you just ground the lead to the engine and if the fan starts it is your switch.

Our switch is a two-wire design, with one of the wires a ground. rblong's hint is reasonable if you ground out the blue wire. If the fan starts, check the ground wire, although it's an unlikely problem because that ground connection is shared by the headlights.

I grounded the hot wire and the fan started, I checked the ground and it was good so it had to be the thermoswitch. I ordered a new one from era today so hopefully I will have it fixed in a few days when it arrives. Thanks for everyone's help!
