Yup... I'll be running a 331 stroker.. I'm going to give
Summit a call to double check the compatibility of the crank pulley with the Powerforce harmonic damper... |

Why do you want to run a serpentine?

It's my understanding there's less chance of throwing
a belt with a serpentine system.. The 331 should put out about 425 HP and 425 ft-lbs so I figure it's safer to go with serpentine.. |

Serpentines exist for one reason-to save space.Which isn't a problem in Cobras.A properly aligned pulley system with a properly sized V-belt will not give you any problems.

I can say with all certainy, the serpentine has been the best move for my car. I used to toss the Alt belt over 7000 RPM all the time. Now, no problem. I am running one March and two Ford pullies. |

Trularin, how about some additional details, maybe a photo of your setup? Which pulley is a March? part number? How about specs on the Ford pulleys, maybe part numbers? Which water pump are you running, long or short? Inquiring minds want to know.
I finally used a stock 1987 Mustang crank and alternator pulley set on my 351W with a standard rotation long water pump. I found a water pump pulley from a 1987 T-bird Turbo Coupe that would work but had to space the crank and alternator forward 1/4" to align everything. Just wondering how you did it and how many hoops you had to jump through to make it all work.

Trularin-with due respect, what did the original FIA cars do for belts?Serpentine didn't exist then.
If a V-belt system is "blueprinted" correctly, there are no issues.

Where can I get 4 bolt V-belt pulleys for a crankshaft and water pump? I found a few Mustang suppliers.. but they are all 3 bolt pulleys. I'll be running a '79 331 with standard flow and length water pump.. Also, the Powermaster (retro 60 amp- external regulator) alternator I have has a two groove pulley. I thought it would of come with a single groove.. I thought I'd run one belt over all 3 pulleys.. |
