Default bung hole and FE parts question

I have a picture of an original steel pan FE 428 oil pan with a bung hole in the rear center on the bottom of the pan. Accordingly to the ERA manual the bung hole should be on the left. Is this because of the frame? Has anyone been successful putting the bung hole in the rear of the pan?

According to my research the FE's came with Autolite starters and alternators. Can you still get these? What amperage? If not, what have other people used?

My goal is to make this as close to the original look, feel and parts as I can.

The rear bung for the oil temp sender should fit at the rear if there is enough room between the pan and the rear engine plate. The left side deal comes from the usual placement on Canton pans, which we use most of the time.

I think you'll find that rebuilds are from the original cores - i.e. Autolite or Ford - although I'll have to check the markings tomorrow.

My starter and alternator came from NAPA as rebuilt units and look as original as reasonably possible. I'm sure they were originally Autolite/Ford units.

----> Thanks for the response. How do I "confirm" if there will enough room...I guess thats my biggest fear that I have the bung installed and then when I put the engine in it hits the rails...

----> ok, thank you.

Zoera....what amperage is correct for the altenator as there seems to be a wide choice here?

Wink Bunghole clearance

My bunghole is at the lower rear and the only time it's hit the frame is when I hit a rock while mountain biking and slid off the front of the saddle. Ouch!

P.S. Yes I do know that I'm juvinile.

You'll need about 2" clearance between the pan fitting and the engine plate for the Bourdon tube.

The rebuilt (by Delco) starter we have has a Motorcraft stamping.

The rebuilt alternator we have has a Fortula stamping, although we've got an unboxed alternator with Autolite in the casting. You'll have to look around for a properly marked rebuilt.
