The dial and hook switch, along with the wiring, had apparently been "experimented on" by an adolescent with a screwdriver. Both required serious attention. What is remarkable is that the audio quality is as good, or better, than a new phone and the bell ringer sound is absolutely charming. Just imagine the calls that took place on that phone. BTW, that wall in my garage was constructed in 1934 so the phone fits right in.

We went from a Build thread of an ERA to looking for Fred to rebuilding a phone dated from 1944

Oh I think Fred would approve. But let your imagination run for a moment and take a page from Stephen King. Imagine it's a dark and stormy night, power is out everywhere in the city and all the phone lines are down -- even your cell phone won't work. Yet you're sure you hear a ringing from the garage and it sounds like that old phone on the wall. Using a flashlight, you make your way down to the garage and, sure enough, the old phone is ringing... so you lift the receiver to your ear. You can just barely make out a distant and crackily voice and then you realize it's Fred, and he wants to talk about his unfinished build....

Here is a link to another of Fred's build threads.

427SC Shelby Cobra Roadster

This was very inspirational to me when I built ERA812.

He was showing a 1971 Boss 351 Mustang at the June 2021 Carlisle Ford Nationals.
Got to admit, Fred has got it going on.
