Default Factory 427 cobra intake and carbs???

I recently aquired a factory dual 4 setup that I was told could be off an early cobra so I thought I might ask the people in the know. It is a factory ford alum intake with no casting numbers. It has the ford logo, firing order, and on back of intake under the breather (pcv) plate it has an S made of 5 straight lines, then 41L and 216258. The carbs are both Holley C2AE-9510-CB. List #2652. Both have chokes and Identical date codes 2A1. Any help in identifying this would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, the carbs would have been earlier than the 2-4 which didn't come from Ford until '63. They were running trips until then. Not sure about the intake, but the carbs are probably off a single 4 intake. Some pics would help to identify. In the 289 cars, which would have been the engine in '62-63 , they used a 2-4 manifold that ran AFB's. I don't think many Cobras( of any engine size) came from the factory with 2-4s. Ford sold a lot of manifolds through the parts dept. and many were sold through other speed shops such as Honest Charley and Gratiot. I think the ones that Shelby sold had either Cobra or Shelby logos, but some may have been blank. So, I would doubt and it would be hard to determine, whether that was ever on a factory 427 Cobra.
I have seen a large S on 390GT cast iron 4v intakes and S is the Ford code for T-birds too. I doubt that Shelby would have "hidden" his logo under anything.
They do make nice bling though

Smile question for WDZ

WDZ,
I bought '68 station wagon with a Q code in vin number which is a 428. I guess the guy ordered it with a 428 to pull his boat. Who knows?
Anyway, I pulled the motor and put it in the storage room for a future project. Later I was looking at pictures of the motor and noticed a reverse S on the back of the block. The intake has a large S on it. I found out what the S on the block was but I have not found anyone who could tell me anything about the intake. I'm not going to use it but someone out there in the FE Ford world may be able to use it on their car.
Can you tell me anything about the intake?

Thanks Dwight

It seems illogical that Shelby would have used a 1962 2X4 intake on a 1965 427 Cobra. 2X4's were more common on the LATER street model cars with a 428.

According to my books, C7AE-E was a cast iron dual plane intake used in the '66-'67 390GT and 428 4v from 11-1-66 to 9-11-67. The large "S" was cast on all '66-68 GT 390's. No "S" on the '69 GT390. That's all Ive got.

I believe the C2 meant 1962 design. You would need to look at the date code of manufacture to determine when it was casted.

I believe shelby used Ford "factory crate" engines offered at the time of construction. The early 427 street cars came with 427 center oilers with 2X4 inakes, I believe low risers but that may not be true. I believe all comp and S/C cobras came with side oilers. A few of the 427 cars came with hi-Riser heads. Some of the 428 cars came with a single four.

Here's what I found: "C7AE-9425-E Cast iron intake manifold used on 1967 S code 390-4V engines in a Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang. Stock 4 barrel intake manifold, used before 9-11-1967."
