Default Precision Oil Pumps- FE rockers & valvetrain ?

I just had a conversation with Doug. He sounds like a great guy and very knowledgeable and answered all my questions.

What do you think of his rockers and other valvetrain ?

His rockers are bushed, no needles to fall apart.
cup/cup- pushrods.

Please report your findings.

Difficult to shim and stay in-line ?
How many miles ?
What rpm have you taken them to ?
Any problems ?
What is your lift & spring pressure's ? (my cam will be mechanical roller)

Any & all information you have would be appreciated.

Kevin, have you searched the FE Forum? There are a ton of threads on the subjects you inquire about. From what I've read over there, Doug is a great guy and his rockers are good, but the Ersons are better.

I haven't yet. I find that site hard to search & follow. I guess I'm spolied by clubcobra.
What makes Erson's better ?

I'll head over there now & see what I can find.

Where's Rick Lake, Brent, Chas or Patrick when you need them?

My strategy has always been to follow everyone else when its chow time. I think most people will recognize that Jessel's and T&D's are the best, though I believe they require a lot of head work to make them work on the Edelbrock heads, and then the Ersons. The Ersons require little to no work on the Edelbrock heads and are considered excellent rockers.

Again, much info over on the FE Forum. Search by match or by date and ye shall receive. I searched by "Doug" and "Precision."

For a healthy solid roller, you will need a good set up that will take higher spring pressures. End stands and good high quality rocker arm bodies are an absolute must.

Doug is a good guy, I've done business with him in the past. He's got a lot of knowledge in FE land. However, I'm not familiar with his rocker arm set and I'm not sure if it would be suitable for a solid roller.

Without knowing the cam specs, it's hard to say exactly what I would pick. But if you plan to spin it up, then you'll need the springs and valve train to match. I like the Erson setup and if you can handle the price, they're hard to beat. They're very easy to set up as well.

I have the Precision Oil Pumps rockers and push rods from Doug. I had one rocker brake which also caused the push rod to bend. I contacted Doug he sent me free of change a new rod and rocker. I have had his setup for about 4-5 years with 8K miles currently. No other issues than the one above. I have a Crower solid cam with a 618-lift/320 duration, Edelbrock heads massaged by Keith Craft however I do not remember my spring rates. I have probably wound up the motor briefly to about 6K rpm's.

I would buy them again from Doug if needed.

I use DOVE HD stands, Shelby stainless rockers (bushed) and 210lbs on the seat and 480 or so open with a solid Comp roller. The stainless rockers are good for 1,000lbs.

I didn't have as many choices as you do because of high-rise heads. If the heads were off, I would use T&D. A little more expensive but the best. Will require some machining on the heads but you you will have the best. Remember, you are building a monster motor so don't cheat the valve train.

Are you using the Dove HR heads? I had a pair but after two different times having cracks and then repaired I bailed and went with the Edelbrock via Keith Craft Heads. If you are using the HR Dove heads I was just wondering how they are working for you? I wish I still had the uniqueness of the HR heads but just couldn't take the lack of reliability and headaches.

Mike, Yes I do have DOVE HR heads. No problems....keeping everything I got crossed...LOL. Have heard other stories like yours but no problems here. Had DOVE stands and rockers...cracked one and decided to go stainless. I have a DOVE aluminum block, etc. Jim Dove built the motor with all his stuff. So far so good.
