Actually a 50/50 mix of distrilled water and antifreeze with some water wetter will cool much better than straight water or distilled water...

Not exactly true. Pure water carries and transfers heat energy better than a 50/50 mix. But the mix has a higher boiling point under pressure, and a lower freezing point.

The heat rejection factor of water being 1.0 pure antifreeze has a .8 heat rejection factor . Any addition of antifreeze to water porportionately reduces the mix's heat rejection capabilities. Pump lubrication, rust inhibitors, elevated boiling points and lowered freezing points are the only advantages of a glycol/water mix.

The only advantages? If you can you should run 50/50 all year long.

Why?

I run about a 25% AF + a surfactent year round. Seems to do OK. In cooler temps I have to put duct tape on the radiater to get the temps up to 180*.

The only time I use anti-freeze is if the car will be exposed to freezing temps. Since my car is never exposed to freezing temps; maximum cooling, pump lube, and corrosion protection are achieved with water and Prestone Super Anti-Rust. There are other corrosion inhibitors that will do the same thing as Prestone. I won't comment on WW and other surfactants except to say that if it makes you feel good knowing it's in there, then pour a bottle in... the odds are that your water pump seal will be just fine...

Same here. Never put any anti freeze in. Just distilled water and a bottle of water wetter. And it gets near the Arizona temperatures around here in the summer. Like 118° with a heat factor of 124/128.
