fordracing 65,
First, I'm not a ford guy at all, but you are just missing it. When did nearly 900 normally-aspirated HP become unimpressive? Your 427 sbf does not do that - period, period, period. And you're wrong about the "same output" you tout: 730rwhp/527ci = 1.38 rwhp/ci as compared your 515rwhp/427ci = 1.21 rwhp/ci - you need to do the math!
Besides, straight-up, 730 rwhp is more impressive than 515 rwhp, period...
Speaking of doing the math, we can do other math as well - as far as a total car weight goes, assume the same chassis (1800 lb without engine). Say the SOHC car weighs 2430lb and your sbf car weighs 2200lb (correct 230lb difference for engine weights) 2430lb/730rwhp = 3.33 lb/rwhp vs your 2200lb/515rwhp = 4.27 lb/rwhp. The SOHC car beats your sbf car, even with its lower weight, by 22% in hp to weight... A HUGE advantage.
If you want to talk supercharged, keep it even and supercharge both the little sbf and the SOHC and see what happens... I could do the math and show you, but you get the picture
Barry, this is a very impressive engine you built! Coming from a non-ford guy!

Well Said. You have to respect those kind of numbers. I agree to drop it into a 67 or 68 mustang but the motor would be worth more than the car! (But O wouldn't it be worth it!!)

On the street no way, around corners no way, down a prepped drag strip with slicks, depends on the driver.

I typed up a comprehensive response but realized that the proper answer to your SBF comparison drivel is a simple "who cares".

+1
Beats me how anything he might have makes that SOHC some how less.
Bad logic and reasoning.
They think that putting others down makes them look superior but they look stupid to a person with a good head on their shoulders.

Let me remind you of this tiny thread from a few months back:
YouTube - ‪Ferrari vs Cobra‬‏
Nuff said. And this car didn't even have Barry's SOHC engine.

As a builder, I appreciate the work and parts put into an engine like that. Makes a ton of power and has the vintage appearance. Nice little mill, Rabotnick.

Thanks brother. It's been a fun package to stick together. About as far from stock specs as can be while maintaining the original vibe.
The small block guy is amusing. Obviously compensating. And has no clue as to how easy it is to find a couple hundred hosepower in an N/A application....

Did you have a point here? What's my point? Honestly, I would stop "taking a leak" on Barry's thread, stop stating the obvious, stop with the big block versus small block nonsense (though we haven't had a good BBF versus SBF in a while), and if you had a point, you made it, and move along.
Here's my point, in case you missed it. Yes, we all know it's an expensive engine. So what? Barry built a beautiful expensive engine, and then you're saying it's expensive (duh), FE's can't handle and FE's can't get down a track fast enough as, maybe, your car? Really?
Resorting to name calling? Really? BTW, trolling is trolling. You're trying to incite "the masses."
Also, if you have a Kirkham, then you should change your info in the top right hand corner of your posts. It still states SPF.

Nice engine, it would look good with the valve covers chromed, and carbs polished.
BTW, there is nothing wrong with a SBF, the look CUTE under the hood of a 65 mustang.

In the age of power adders, those numbers are excellent considering N/A.
Nice work Barry!
Now what could I put one of those in?????

Barry,
When I win the lottery, I'm gonna ask you to build me one! Who knows what I'll put it in! Maybe a '64 F100 SWB, lowered, with patina........then watch their face when I pop the hood..................
Awesome!! Nothing, absolutely nothing, can match the looks of a SOHC!
FE's forever!!
And, Barry, you took the high road on your "who cares" response. Way to go!!
