Default REmote Oil filter installation on an FE427 SO engine

Hello folks:
I m considering the possibility of installing a remote oil filter into my 427 SO for purposes of accessibility when doing an oil change. Does anyone have any good suggestions (do's and don'ts) or scrap the idea alltogether?

If you have suggestions as to what are the best components to use (I am ver partial to FRAM filters) please let me know.

All suggstions and comments will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely
Basque 1(Lou)

Be less partial to Fram. Search here-there are reams of filter threads and data. Superior filters from K&N, Mobil 1, Motorcraft and Wix.
You could keep it simple and spend a fraction on ramps and pull your filter from below.
With remote you'll add chances for leaks from more fittings and make your spill mess on top of the crossmember instead of below it.

Smile oil filter

most oil filter we use on our street motor by pass at 11 - 14 PSI. I found the Motorcraft FL1A HP by pass is 25 PSI. Last year I could find them in parts stores, Ford dealers for $10 to $15 each. Then they became hard to find. I did a search and found them for $9 plus shipping so I ordered a case. This is Summit info on the FL1A filter, note the Relief Valve Open pressure. Does this mean anything above 14 PSI the oil is by passing the filter?

Comp cars used a bracket on the front of the left head with a cast housing remote filter. Parts for it are readily available from me, Finishline etc.

Lightbulb Bypass pressure

Dwight, The filter bypass allows oil to bypass the filter media when the DIFFERENTIAL pressure across the filter exceeds the bypass pressure.
This has to do with FLOW through the filter, not oil system pressure.
This is to insure that your engine gets OIL in case the media becomes clogged. Dirty oil beats NO OIL.
They can also bypass for a while on a cold start, due to the oil being thicker and harder to pass thru the filter.

I have a dual remote filter mount on the front crossmember, plumbed before the oil cooler. I also ported the mount to clean up the passages for better flow. Always put your filter before the cooler as hotter oil flows through the filter easier.

One more thing, I wouldn't use a Fram filter on my lawn mower. Do a little research and you'll find out why I and many others feel this way.
I use Motorcraft filters whenever possible. I think they're made my Purolator.

Hope this is helpful.

I've considered adding a remote system to my FE for 1) easier filter access, and 2) I just think it looks cool. But, our local FE guru/engine builder recently told another FE member on here to get rid of the remote filter. I'm not sure of his reasons. Maybe that member will chime in with more details.

And, X2 on the other comments on Fram. Do a little research on them, and you'll put Fram at the bottom of your preference list.

Lastly, I agree with previous comments that you'll just add more connections that could possibly leak.

I also like the looks of the oil cooler, but my personal experience shows that I don't need one on my FE in Okla, especially for street use. Even on summer track days, the oil temp stays OK during 20-25 mile track sessions. If the track session was 50 or 100 miles; maybe, I don't know.

I've decided to NOT install remote filter or cooler on mine.

It's not going to leak, it makes changing the oil slightly easier, and it looks cool. Just safety wire the filter like you, hopefully, safety wire everything else.

With a Kirkham you have to use a remote oil filter location kit or the engine wont fit.
