From I've gathered here and on the FE forums over the years, by the time all the machining is done on all these blocks (some more than others), their prices equalize a bit.

Of course the builder completely ignores the fact that you might be dropping that POS FE motor in to a six figure toy....

Says the guy with a glorified 390 (faux FE, er, 428) to one who has a twin-Paxton supercharged all alloy 482 (or whatever ci).
Can we talk about POS FE's now?

Well that's my point. I would charge Rodney 30% more than most of the guys over on FordFE.com just because I know he could afford it.

I know what your point is, but I wanted you to realize that POS FE is relative. Not all POS FE's are created equal.

Well, I suppose that's right... some FEs are POSier than others.

Are you saying that FE builders have a different price for a Rachero FE vs a nice fakey-do Cobra?
Next time, I'm saying it's going into a Squire Wagon!

Well, probably not Lykins. He'd probably still charge a fair price even if he saw a trail of C-Notes coming out of your pocket and heading off in to the sunset.

I have reasons why I believe Patrick is wrong, although I always count myself as a cynic.
1. How many different types of cars are these $20,000 +/- all aluminum FE's being dropped into? And how many are Ranchero or Country Squire station wagons? Generally, I think your all-alloy FE buyer is bound to be an ERA, Kirkham or CSX buyer. Maybe a high dollar Mustang or two. So, duh, it's going into a Cobra.
2. They still must remain competitively-priced amongst themselves in order stay in business.

Agreed.
I think that $20k price is a good baseline and just go up from there depending on how pretty and how special you want it. And once you are in that deep, unless you are building something special you aren't going to put it in one of the cars we see for sale all the time for $35-40k, IMHO

On this point it would appear so.
On twin rollbars and SFT's, no.
