But, last night I did more research and a few people were saying it's too much.

I did with my 428 and had no issues.
Better question for Brent. I've always heard that side oilers were pretty thin wall casting, in part due to their original 4.23 inch bore to start with. I've heard .020 is safe, .030 good idea to sonic check first; anything over .030 need to be very careful.

A 428 block typically had a little more meat around the bores and could typically take a pretty good overbore, although all of these old production line blocks were subject to potential core shift.

I heard it all on Al Gore's internet - it must be true.

Curious what the block casting number is....C5AE-XX or similar. Also as stated above, it would be help to verify a true S/O by seeing a clear pic of the oil gallery on the side of the block and of course the back of the block.

All that said, it would still scare me without a lot of teardown and inspection.

I agree, don't buy yourself a second nightmare. Have blykins quote you a price on a nice SCAT stroked 428 build. You'll be happier, I promise.

He said my aluminum side oiler block (and other peoples blocks)and parts were stolen, but he went through a divorce and had other money problems, but I believe he sold all he could get.

I need to sell some Sprint Car racing parts and another toy I have to add to this engine build. We don't have the money we used to because of my bad health issue, Hospital bills and medications.

I just can't put a low cost, mediocre, purring little kitten motor in the Cobra.

The engine builder stole my "spirit for life" for 6 years, but I'm now ready to get back with building a motor for my Cobra, and back to a happy life !
With all you have been through, you owe it to yourself to do it right this time. I hate hearing stories like yours and wish you only the best.

And who knows? Maybe if you have some Sprint Car parts that Blykins could use you might be able to trade a few things off towards a nice engine build.
Just a thought...

Money's important, but the integrity of the builder is paramount. Forget the damn side oiler. Do as we tell you -- most of us get paid a ridiculous amount of money to just give good advice. This one is on the house.

That's funny buddy !
Man, you must be filthy rich by now !

Building a 428 is a good option, but I'll see how much money I can come up with, selling the sprint car parts.

I'm also going to sell my last 1/4 scale RC sprint car. I wrapped it just like our 360 sprint we raced for years. Hate to but, the Cobra will make me MUCH happier !

Allow in to your thinking the fact that the internet engine builder crook fiasco, coupled with your health issues and medications, could be affecting your judgment. You might want to bounce your decisions off of the guys here first before you commit. We're more likely to tell you the truth, rather than what you want to hear.

Yup. What Patrick said. We are actually something of a family here and enjoy helping each other out and staying out of trouble when we can.

Going .020-.030" over on a side-oiler is generally safe with a sonic test.

It's supposedly a NOS block, so he wouldn't have the crank....it was never a complete engine.

Pairing a 427 block with a 428 crank yields 454 cubes.

Not a bad deal for a NOS block with a SCJ crank.

Hi Brent,

What's the difference between the NOS ( nitrous oxide engine),... lol

Verses OEM (original equipment manufacturer) ?

So, the first owner ordered this set up ?

If it was yours, what all would you do with it, machining etc ?

If it wouldn't cost me two shipments, I'd send it to you and have you go through it. (if I bought it of course)

NOS = New Old Stock. It's a brand new OEM piece that didn't sell years ago.
