What is a medium oiler ?
I'll have him shoot a photo of the oiler side to see if it's a true S/O.
Can't really want to afford a new block but, if that's what it's going to take, I guess that's what I'll do. hum.....
I don't know what to think now ?

Sorry, mis-read his ad... He say's a it's a side oiler with Medium riser heads, not medium/top oiler. My bad and poor reading skills. DUH.

I understand what a side and center oiler is, guess I don't recall it also being named medium, other than medium riser.
Yeah, I know, it just means saving up more money, I want a solid motor. I'm hoping to find a great condition built side oiler from a honest man or one that needs assembled, so it's lower in cost.
FE's are incredibly,....... high in cost !!!

It's .030 over and he says no cracks. I think I would ask how they know it could safely handle that overbore and that there are no cracks and see if his response includes the words "sonic" and "magnafluxing" in it.
But, if it is what he says it is - no way to build a motor close to that for the money.
Those carbs are probably worth a lot.

I though that the S/O's were safe going.030 ?
But, last night I did more research and a few people were saying it's too much.
I did with my 428 and had no issues.

Better question for Brent. I've always heard that side oilers were pretty thin wall casting, in part due to their original 4.23 inch bore to start with. I've heard .020 is safe, .030 good idea to sonic check first; anything over .030 need to be very careful.
A 428 block typically had a little more meat around the bores and could typically take a pretty good overbore, although all of these old production line blocks were subject to potential core shift.
I heard it all on Al Gore's internet - it must be true.

Curious what the block casting number is....C5AE-XX or similar. Also as stated above, it would be help to verify a true S/O by seeing a clear pic of the oil gallery on the side of the block and of course the back of the block.
All that said, it would still scare me without a lot of teardown and inspection.

It's supposedly a NOS block, so he wouldn't have the crank....it was never a complete engine.
Pairing a 427 block with a 428 crank yields 454 cubes.
Not a bad deal for a NOS block with a SCJ crank.
