Default Valve seals

What is the best procedure to replace all the valve seals on a 427 side oiler? Also what would be the the seal of choice?
Thanks....

depends, "Best" is subject to opinion, heads on or heads off, with the correct tools or backyard caveman style.....without knowing tools avail best is subjective

Default Valve stem seals

I really don't want to pull the heads I would like to install them on the car. I purchased a valve spring compression tool that will slide over the rocker shaft. I have installed seals on GM motors before so I know the basics. My main question is what is the best way to index the engine so both valves are closed. I do have a air pressure spark plug adapter tool to keep the valves closed when the valve springs are removed.
Thank

There is a tool that screws into the spark plug hole and allows you to use compressed air to hold the valves shut. It makes me pucker, but I have used it with success on several engines. The air pressure actually pushes the piston to the bottom of the stroke - pucker.

The other option is to put the piston at TDC and feed some small cord thru the spark plug hole to hold the valve up. I have not personally used this approach.

There is no way I would pull the heads just for seals.

On an FE if you loosen the rocker shaft all the valves will close.

I replaced all springs, locators, retainers, locks and seals on my engine a few weeks back. PM me if you'd like, and I'll be glad to help with your questions.

with factory heads and the larger plug hole, the nylon rope works good, you can even get your finger in there too for a little rope assistance.

with aftermarket heads and peanut plugs, the compressed air is probably the path of least resistance.
