Re: Genesis
I spoke to Genesis last week and they said that their 427 SO aluminum block would be available to the masses in 45 days. Also, they will be selling a crate aluminum block motor with all forged parts from SCAT, etc for $13,900 with a 2 year warranty. It will be interesting to see how other engine builders respond. What a deal!

Bluedog, yes but how much power can they make with it. So far Keith Craft has my vote.

Blue dog , that is a good price for the aluminum block, can they get 650+ out of it?

Genesis 427 blocks
Just in case you have not been informed or have the latest information on the genesis 427 blocks, the few that were received by FLATLANDER RACING were all sent back! The people at FLATLANDER expresed great disapointment in the quality of the blocks, along with the poor bussiness practices of the owners,Tim Mcloughlin and Ron Read. All of the customers that I have been talking to, still have not received their engine,or there requsted money back. I have also spoken to tim Mcloughlin and he has lied to me countless times regarding delivery dates and in returning my money. If you are one of the many victims who fell prey to their scam, you are requested by the F.B.I to contact them and lodge a complaint of innerstate fraud. The more complaints the better! They will then asses a value to the case, proceded with an investigation, and file criminal charges. You are also encouraged to call the U.S postal service and file mail fraud charges. Don't waste another minute of your time waiting or beleiving their lies. Even if you were by chance to receive a block, what will you do if it requires warrenty service???Wait another 2-3-4-5 yrs??? Please pass the news around ! Thanks.

Re:
Can't vouch for any horsepower numbers or the truthfullness of what I was told. Tim did say that Ford motorsports would be reselling their blocks. He did sound very confident. I've waited this long so I'm going to take a "wait and see" approach to see what materializes.

After the hype wears off some more, its just a matter of time before FMS or World or E-brock gets in on the deal and the price of a FE crate package is available and comes down in price comparable to other big block crate offerings. i.e. Hemi, ChevyBB, etc.

I know Keith has several of the aluminum blocks right now. It was my understanding that there was alot of machining to get them right..that may be where the frustration comes from.

Johns motor is incredible!!! Before a couple weekends ago, I had never felt that kind of power, and I've been in some pretty powerful cobras before. To me, while I didn't drive it (was only a passenger), it seemed as if Keith Craft was able to deliver tamable power for the street as it seemed to drive nicely at low rpm's. Boy, when he hit the gas though, it was a serious beast! Would that kind of power be for everyone? No. The wow factor was pretty cool though!
Be careful John!

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments.
The upgrades have started to make sure I can safely put the power to the ground. Weak link 1 the transmission (3550) is being replaced. I now have an TKO-600 on order. I may have to do some clutch work at the same time.
More to come ...

Upgrades
Hey John, I have decided that Keith Craft will build my engine. I'm using the genesis block 427-482 with dual carb setup. What is your take on clutch type, tranny, rear end. After several conversations with Mike Stenhouse, editor of Superformance owners magazine, "The Second Strike", I am leaning toward the TKOII with 327 gear in the rear end or possibly the 308. He felt that this gives a low enough first gear to eliminate high revs to get moving, and the correct 5th gear so that shifting from 4th to 5th doesn't feel like going into some huge overdrive. Tell me about the tranny you are going with. I understand that TKOII is heavier duty than the 3550. Also , if this engine is as awesome as it sounds, the drive train will have to take the horsepower. Your ideas are appreciated.

CobraSpy,
I have a TKO, which is a stronger tranny than a 3550. The TKOII is a more "pro race" application with a tighter gear box, making it a bit harder to shift. I received this info from the TKO tech line (1-800-355-0086). Keith Craft is machining my cast block now. I should receive it by the end of the month.

Hey CobraSpy,
as I know it my 3350 will handle 375 ft-lbs tq. The TKO II will handle 475 ft-lbs tq and the new TKO-600 will handle 600 ft-lbs tq. I too am going with the .82 5th so that 5th is just another gear and not an overdrive. While driving around town in 5th I always feel like I need to downshift because I am running such low rpms and I have 373 rear gears. I am also looking at 308 and 327 but that will be one of my last upgrades right now I am leaning towards the 327. Please let me know which you choose and how they perform.
Slithering,
congrats, keep me posted on your build.

John,
Who did you order your TKO-600 from and what did they quote for delivery?

Steve,
One of the other TCC members has put together a group buy and he has done all the work, I'm just along for the ride. I not sure who he is dealing with. My guess would be we are looking at another 2-3 weeks.

Tranny
Hey John,
I can't seem to find a good web site that will explain what tremec's are available and what there specs are as far as gear ratios and torque ratings. I want the same gear ratios that the TKOII has except in a heavier duty tranny.
Does the TKO600 fit that bill? Are there any comparisons that I can access on the web?
DAVE
ps. still going to have Keith build the genesis
FE with dual carbs,,,need tranny that will take it
