It just keeps getting better the more I drive it! INSTANTLY fires up with a brief twist of the key, hauls a$$ and get's decent mileage (10 or better). I'm stoked! 
,,,over 6000 views on this thread, wow, more of us should do an Engine Build thread, they seem to be popular.

I don't have the experience or nerve to build my own engine. I'm doing good to just get an engine installed in my car!

It is VERY nerve wracking building your own engine!!! I would really like to tear it down again at some point and see how it looks inside. But then again, curiosity killed the cat... I better leave well enough alone.
I met up with a couple of Cobra owners for breakfast and we cruised Waikiki afterward. We parked right next to the beach on the main drag and sat a little ways away from the cars, in the shade. My what a view (bikinis everywhere, I do love the beach)!
Lots of people stopping by the cars, taking pictures, posing, having fun, some asking questions, etc. Not ONE person asked, "Is it real". They just enjoyed the cars! Twas a good day. The car is running exceptionally well and I scorched through the gears a number of times! |

Sure have, much more aggressive about ticketing speeders and a new 'race' law goes into effect in January. 25 mph over the speed limit or over 80 mph will be a 'racing' ticket. VERY tough fines. You could loose your car and face jail time.
Choose wisely where you 'scorch' through the gears! |

Le Mans rods, reconditioned of course, 428 crank (1U), custom pistons and all balanced and blue printed. Comp Cams 292S (S for solid lifter). I don't have the specs off the top of my head but Gessford recommended the cam for:
1800-2000 to 6200-6400 rpm range, this was based on my rear end gear, compression, driving needs (street mostly) etc. I also wanted a nice 'lumpy' idle and it sounds great and pulls hard! |

Wow, super job! Loved the pix!
I had a fuse pop out @ cooling fan halfway home fron Lihue, just as the rain began....to keep it short, The "Jagubra" now has a new aluminum top end.
Big valve aftermarket aluminum heads, 1.6 roller rockers, Air Gap manifold, ceramic coated exhaust, etc. Fun project, but I'm still having a couple problems. The 1.6 rockers, [and slightly longer push rods] leave no room to adjust the valves intio the hydraulic action of the lifters. I adjust the "finger spin" out of the pushrods plus perhaps a miniscule amount more, but cannot get the suggested 3/4 turn tightening. Adjusting any tighter and the engine will not start, any looser, and they tick like an old sewing machine! Do you think shorter pushrods would resolve this? Thanks, Charlie 
P.S. It LOVES to run 3500-6000 rpm! Most likely another 75 hp and sure feels like it! Pictures in gallery.

Hey there, been looking for you! I started a thread in all cobra talk and couldn't find an email address for you.. I was going to ask you got your beautiful short side pipes on your red cobra in your picture gallery... they look like they have some sort of white ceramic coating on them and they are short side pipes... always loved those beauts... I was wondering if you could inform me how you aquired them.
I have always loved those lil bad boys.. yours a perfect! Another member told me that car was yours! Greatly appreciate your time and hope to hear from you soon..

The shorties are pretty simple, just a large pipe cut at an angle on one end and welded to a square flange on the other that matches the headers. I bought the car used and the shorties came with it. High temperature paint, not powder coat. I touch up the sidepipes, shorties AND wheels as needed, usually about once a year. I've had the pipe and wheels black, red (that was awful) and currently white. I change it up when I get bored, which is the nice thing about paint instead of powder coat, freedom of expression. The side pipes bolt on/off pretty quick with the four 9/16 bolts, a single gasket and a rear hanger bolt. I used to change them out at the drag strip in the pitts, run the shorties, bolt the pipes back on and drive home. |

Jerry - Ernie is probably out and about but as far as the track and drag strip
goes - it is history - at least at that site. They are building a large
industrial/warehouse complex where it was. That is the downside of living
on an island - not much space! There are some still looking but land costs
so much here - about the only way it could happen would be if the state
could set aside some land at an old base such as Barbers Point to be used,
then the lawyers come along saying liability so I'm not holding my breath.
