Default Intake gasket help please

I need to reseal my intake (ends leaking oil). I want to see what people think would be the best gasket to use for my motor. I have a 390, with a Blue Thunder 1x4 intake. Do I need LR or MR intake gaskets? Is any brand preferred over another, and if so, any part numbers available?

Any help would be appreciated, trying to get this done for the weekend.

Throw away the front and rear seal, run a bead of the gray silicone in there place about a 1/4 inch thick and let it set for about 4-5 hours, then carefully set the intake on. I always dip my finger in oil and spread it on the bottom of the intake where it sets on the silicone, in case your not aligned correctly this will give you a little movement without screwing up the silicone, works for me!.....
Don't forget to put a dab of silicone on the intake gaskets where there notched for gaskets.

So I want the MR gaskets for my setup? I am pretty sure I used the 1246 when I put it on, but don't recall.

DO NOT USE FEL PRO!!!!!!!!!!!! JUNK GASKETS enough said

Buy a Victor-Reinz part number 95158SG for MR or Victor Nitro Seal 95159SG.
Can purchase these gaskets at NAPA

Thin bead of grey silicone (motorcraft/ford brand) around water passages and at corners. 1/4 " bead at front and back rails, set intake and secure using right torque sequence. Let set for 2 to four hours or even over night.

What's the nitro seal? And are you confirming I need MR gaskets for my setup?

I have Fel-Pro on the car now, and don't have a problem with them, but I am always open to better products.

Here's the deal with the end gaskets.. I have ALWAYS used end gaskets, on every intake I've ever done. I have never to this day had one leak. Not being that familiar with FEs, I went against my usual routine and did the silicone bead on the ends for this motor. And it leaks.

Check the "new" Fel-Pro Printoseal gaskets if you like that particular brand. After I told Fel-Pro about my (and others) failures, they started putting a steel sandwich reinforcement inside to get rid of the short-life-on-the-street problem. I think the new version has a part number ending in "s" or something like that...

I used silicon - on a 460 - and no problems yet.

I used the Victor Reinz - the revised Printoseals weren't out yet.

Here's an earlier thread about this: Intake gasket droop

Nitro seal is there newer performance gasket. Buy Victor and compare them to Fel Pro. Much better product in my and other opinion.
You can confirm this at FE Forum.

About two weeks ago I tried to order a Victor Reinz Intake gasket for me FE through Napa. 24-hrs later they said sorry we no longer carry them.

I've searched a bit to try to find out who does but no luck.

Anyone know where to order them from?

Mike

Default Gaskets and sealers

Power Surge Gaskets are gaskets when installed correctly The 1246 felpros will work great, Make sure you check the oil returns in the corners and the coolant ports that they line up correctly. I use HighTAC sealer on both sides of the gasket, This a ***** to get off but have not had a leak in the upper end yet. Use sealant from GM part# 12378521, I think they stole this from the Japanese car builders. 3/8" line of sealant, you have 2 minutes until it skins. In 2 hours, you can go racing. Will not leak as long as surfaces are CLEAN AND DRY. I use this on all my motors. Some silicones eat the Aluminium parts, this doesn't. Rick Lake

Okay, now I am more confused.... Low riser has bigger ports than Medium Riser? MR are listed as 1.40 x 2.10 and Low Riser are listed as 1.46 x 2.40.

My Blue Thunder MR intake has the smaller ports, but my 390 heads have the larger ports (mismatch is okay since it's smaller feeding to larger).

The gasket I had on there was FelPro 90145. They are the blue steel core Permatorques. I assume this is the same as the VR NitroSeals?

I will try the Nitroseals, but I obvously need the LR version for my big port heads.

Hmm, this sucks. All the local Napas said they no longer carry Victor, and the local Car Quests would have to special order them. So much for getting the car done for the weekend .

Do the NitroSeals have the silicone beads around the ports like the PrintOSeals? Or are they just steel core regular style gaskets? If so, I'd just use another set of PermaTorques.
