I have been using the 100/110 LL Avgas I get at the small airport
where I get my skydiving fix. I just fill a 5 gal can and use my credit
card and do a rough blend of 1 : 10 with the 92 octane pump gas. It doesn't
sound like much but sure makes a difference in how the Cobra runs,
especially in 5th which is the Tremac .64. If the road is flat and level
it will cruise at 55 smoothly where without the juice I had to be going at
least 65 for it to run ok. I can go up H-3 in 5th no problem at 65 with it,
and it is just over 2,000 rpms at 80 in 5th. I'm sure the c/r is less than
10:1 but not by much. The 100LL is between $5 & 6/gal here but I also
get about 3 mpg better so I figure I'm getting the better performance for
no extra cost. Oh, and I love the smell of that AVgas!

We have both leaded and unleaded VP 110 octane at our local Sunoco. During spring and summer the 110 unleaded is in the pump. Leaded is in the garage in the drum. Both are $9.98 a gal. Right over the hill from me here. Sweet.

That's pretty expensive. I am paying $7.98 a gallon right now for F&L 111 octane from the pump in So.Cal.

Yep it is. But it's the only game in town. I remember years ago when it was $3.98 a gal and thinking it was expensive then.

Here in the "Wild Wild West, "...Lake Havasu City,AZ , there are numerous boat builders that require 100 + fuel for those big Chevy motors. Then all the out of towners that come here with their boats and cars also need the stuff too.
Most all the stations including the major brands carry 100+ racing fuel, right now it's $4.50 per gallon. I use the regular 94 in my FE for about $2.09 to $2.25 at the local Standard Station......works great.

$62 for 5 gal is $12.40 a gal. Unless you typed it backwards and get 5 gal for $26? If that's the case I'll be coming up your way.

sorry to say no typo there.
But yes, I did get it after FedEx shipped it back to him. I had him bring it to the post office and ship Priority. Had it 2 day's later. Didn't say anything to FedEx yet. I think there still looking for it.

I tried AV fuel once. VERY HARD TO START THE CAR.
Most likley need to mix like stated in other posts.

Never had that problem or heard of it before..... My race car will sometimes "sit" for a couple of months without being fired up and one good pump on the accelerator and hit the starter button and it fires up instantly, same as when I ran 110 or 114 octane.........

Best is to get a drum of Sunoco Standard and be done with it.
It will stabilize your fuel in the winter and your car will run perfect all year long. Five gallons added to 15 of premium is all you need.

If you use toluene, 1:9 or 1:10 with 92, 93, 94 unleaded is about optimum. If you mix toluene too rich, you'll tend to foul your plugs, exhaust is very sooty, and it acts like it is cold natured and never seems like it gets warmed up. (Experience: hot SBC in a Vega, back in the '70's.) I also remember a '60's street racing trick of adding 1 gal of laquer thinner and a handful of moth balls to the gas tank. Don't add to much, or you'll lean out and burn a hole in a piston.
Depending on the octane rating of av gas, it can be 20-30% toluene, with the remainder being alkylate, with xx grams of lead. Alkylate (and toluene) is "heavier" than other gasoline blend stocks (Platformate, FCCU cracked gasoline, etc), so it may require a little more advance on timing to fire it off and take full advantage of it.
After 32 yrs making/blending gasoline in a Sunoco refinery, I'd suggest buying racing fuel by the drum (pick your brand) and mixing it with the highest octane available at the pump. Experiment with ratios until you get what is best for your engine combo. 80/20, 85/15, or 90/10 might be all you need. Why run straight race gas or 50/50 if you don't need it?

Good post. I mix F&L 111 octane with 91 octane pump gas 85/15. It runs very well.

It was not that many years ago, (10 to 12 maybe) when I drag raced my 65 fastback a few times a year at Ford only events. I had no trailer so I drove it to the track, raced it and drove it home...
I'd stop at Auto Zone, buy a gallon of virgin laquer thinner and borrow their trans. funnel, pour it in the tank and then go across the street and finish filling it up with 93 octane and head out to the track..... The tank held a total of 16 gallons, did this many times over the years till the price of laquer thinner got crazy........
still running that very same motor and it's never been apart since I built it in the early 90's..........
The guys behind the counter at Auto Zone still think I'm crazy to this day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of compression ratio are you running with a 70/30 or 80/20 mix with 110 VP?
