Default Question about the dash-mounted rear-view mirror

A few days ago, my 3-year-old Cobra enthusiast son managed to pull my rear view mirror off the windshield. My wife then accused me of encouraging him, since I've been wanting to replace it with a dash-mount mirror anyway!

My question is how do I mount the mirror? My car is together and I lack the expertise (or desire to acquire the expertise) needed to remove the dash. Are there screws similar to wood screws that would secure the mirror (provided my son doesn't decide to use it as a piece of jungle gym equipment) without harming the fiberglass?

Thanks,

JLW

Most auto parts stores have a selection of screws. #8 self tapping stainless steel screws are what are used on my ERA. Drill & tap the holes before you mount the mirror or you may ruin the paint.

JLW,
When you lay out the holes for the mounting do so on masking tape to protest yor finish and drill and install nut certs in dash and then mount your mirror and you will not have any loose screws later.

I hate to drill holes in anything so I used double side tape, the good kind that you put chrome onto the body with.

I got two stainless steel washers as big as would fit. then mounted the mirror to them, using a flat head screw up from the bottom and an acron nut on top. The washer provided enough surface for the tape to work. Been on for two years so far.
And if a kid pulls on it and makes is loose just re-tape.
