Where does the body mount?

KSC- Cobra

Over Thanksgiving weekend, we set the body on the frame for hopefully the last time. The instruction manual isn't very specific on where the body actually makes contact. The only real obvious location is the firewall. Where does the body sit in the rear, is it on the frame brace between the shock mounts or the frame members going towards the rear of the car that the gas tank mounts between? Also, where does it mount in the front forward of the engine?

The fiberglass sits mainly on the frame rails front to back,if you have the manual it should be clear and you found the dimension from hood edge opening the front edge of the cowl/footbox 1 1/4". Look at page 3-2. Don't forget to shim where ever it needs it before bolting it down

On my car the body rests on the fire wall as you stated, on the floor frame rails, the frame between the shocks and the frame structure around the fuel tank. Up front the body sits on the inner fenders and on the (modified) frame structure that the hood hinges bolt to. The mod ification extends it up to allow the body to sit on it as well as raises the hinge pivot point closer to the body.

It has been 20+ years and most of the stuff that concerned me during the build still floats around in the grey matter. The stuff that was easy is a little harder to recall. Do remember the right rear of the body needed shims for it to sit on the frame rails with no stress. Do not recall the body sitting on the hood hinge support structure.
Our car is stored for the winter so cannot check other than the manual.

The hood hing support was "modified" on my car so that the body rests on it as well as the inner fenders. It was not originally designed that way.

Tony,
I guess it would be okay if the glass is barely touching the bar as long as the body is well supported around it.
I have a question: fender liners for the rear. Next season will be getting our car ready to fix a couple of spots in the rear fenders that rocks kicked up hit inside hard enough to crack the glass showing in the gelcoat. The repair has to be done from both sides then I plan to use a truck bed liner material to line the rear fenders.

I have a saved FFR body prep post that has a clever idea of glueing a closed cell foam product on the underbody fenders. The poster used bed liner coating as well.

Good idea,but have been told that the bed liner material is all you need. One day stopped at the shop where our truck bed was done they offered to do our car,at whatever thickness we want. We will see next season.

The fiberglass on the streetbeast cars is quick thick. I have very stickly tires and have had no problems with just two coats of bed liner, the brand I used was called Hercules or something. Expensive but nice product.

To fit the body to the frame, we found the frame was crooked and the body was not square.... yep, and not exactly in a way which made any rational 'the OEM builder intended it to be this way' type of sense. So... we decided that mechanics are square one so we torched and welded the frame back together (and re-did nearly all those lousy bird crap welds that came from the factory) and then arranged the body to sit correctly according to the outer edge of the wheels.
