I thought long and hard about this engine height versus hood scoop size topic during my build. I learned from Vern back in 2000 that he was taking the Edelbrock Torker II manifold and milling off .250” off the carb base to be able to fit the large ford cobra oval filter under the hood. I really liked the shape and proportions on the West Coast hood and scoop and didn’t want to cut it up and make it taller. Now for max power that would hurt but the Torker II milled fit nicely. This set up is the lowest carb pad height you can have without maybe an old cast iron intake. So for the street it works fine. I’m still trying to figure out how to replace the entire oval air filter with a custom made housing with a modern K&N flat panel filter that other cobra owners have built. I really want an extra hood to be able to plan a massive blown 460 hanging out of the hood hole , not scoop. That would be the next step. The Hot Wheels look. Lol
