Has anybody gone with a larger hood scoop? I have air cleaner clearance / fit issues, as in a previous thread, and I notice some of the European guys with DAX Cobras have a much larger hood scoop. It's considerably wider than the WC scoop, and looks a bit higher, so it s/b able to run a 14" air cleaner inside of that.

FWIW, I see Shell Valley has a large scoop in their catalogue - it's listed as 31.5" long, 18.5" wide (presumably flange to flange) and 3.5" high. It also looks like it's more rounded, more like the original style than the slightly angular DAX scoop. Cobra Replica Hood Scoop

Take a look at this air filter I have a 460 cu in in my car with a Weiand manifold, this worked on my car you will not be able to use their wing nut
Net Height from Carb Flange (in):2.625 in.

Thx. I may look into that, but for now I'm going with this setup, albeit w/o the turkey pan for now (that may come later).

I'm also removing the 1/2" carb spacer and replacing it with a 5° wedge spacer (http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...5030/overview/). My carb is now 3° up in front and this will change it to 2° down, a closer match to the angle of the scoop.

Do you have a hi-rise manifold? If you do I would be interested in hearing how it worked out
I get starvation at hard acceleration I am wondering if this could remedy that.

No, manifold is an Edelbrock Performer 460, so it's not high. Edelbrock lists the Carb pad height as 4.12" with the comment "same as stock".

I'm now looking at an Edelbrock Performer RPM vs current Performer. The RPM carb height is listed by Edelbrock as 5.480" vs 4.120" on my current Performer intake manifold.

That extra 1.36" is not going to fit under my current hood scoop with any air cleaner, so I'm back to taking another look at taller hood scoops. I'll definitely not bond this one on, but plan on using stainless steel button head machine screws, probably 4mm.

I'm leaning toward Shell Valley's "Cobra Replica Carbon Fiber Hood Scoop". It's 24" X 15.5" X 3.25" (SKU: C7070HSCF). The height and width seem okay but when I measure my current scoop it would appear the SV scoop wouldn't be long enough to cover the rear of the scoop 'bulge' on the hood, so I'd need to deal with that. /2

OTOH, as noted above, Shell Valley also has a larger scoop in their catalogue, in both fiberglass and carbon fiber. It's 31.5 " X 18.5" X 3.5" (CF SKU: C7070HSSCF). I'm not real keen on the appearance of the larger scoop, though the additional 0.25" in height would help with clearance and the additional 7.5" of length would certainly eliminate any issues with the hood bulge.

The larger scoop would have to be mounted all the way back on the hood, meaning some of the screws would need to be much longer - long enough to go through the hood reinforcement. An alternative would be to use regular length (e.g. 3/4") screws in the regular thickness parts of the hood and 'dummy' screws - just the heads epoxied in place in the thick parts.

Does anyone have experience with these scoops? If so, any photos would be appreciated.

A larger hood scoop, such as the ones in the photographs or the one offered by Shell Valley, may be a good option My Singing Monsters if you're having problems with the conventional one's air cleaner clearance and fit.
