He says the GT3 was sold..

I had a 964RS (Clubsport) and regret having sold it. And not because of the increase in value. I used it on open days in Hockenheim and every public road in Germany.

I have driven (not owned) CAVs in town and a few laps on the track and would never have considered buying a GT40 to replace the Porsche.

They are too far apart to compare.

ERA did discontinue their GT40 replica. However, they're available in the resale market. Just like everything ERA makes, they're an outstanding product. In fact, I'd argue that they're a better built GT40 than the SPF, just no continuation status and no "interchangeability" with the original, though, I doubt that matters much.

Puh-leeze. Evan was at least intelligent and made a point. :p:LOL:

Rodknocker can still unload that Kirkum and get one too.

Yes, I could get a SPF GT40, but I won't. As I previously mentioned, I tried one on for size and the GT40 felt like a jail cell to me. Too claustrophobic for my taste. No windows and that engine is like right behind you.

I almost bought an ERA GT40 (wrong color for me) and they are really nice just like their Cobras. I agree GT40s are very unique and not for most. For me it was having a Ford 60s performance car with A/C. I looked at the Daytona Coupe as an option but I didn't like the roof line inside coming down right at my left ear. I do miss the Cobra at times but not when it is 95/100 degrees here in Texas! I think at the end of the day if you want a GT40 there are lots of options if you want to buy new depending on what you want to spend. RCR also makes a nice car as well as many others. The one issue is they do not come up for sale used very often....

There's an RCR at a fire sale price right now on the gt40 board.

Hasn't been marked sold, so here's a nice red SPF GT40 at a "firesale" price of $133,500, listed since April 11, 2016. No affiliation to seller.

When a GT40 owner actually needs the cash and the BS stops, a serious buyer with cash can make a mutually beneficial deal. ;)

MHNCO 07-07-2016 07:06 AM

I'll sell mine to you for $169K(and still lose my shirt)

Sorry, upon further consideration, it's not for sale. If it ever does go on the market which is unlikely I hope, it would be gone for full asking price within days. It's that nice.

The red one above for $133K is that nice too. Olthoff-built, Dart 347, 8-stack EFI, with a ZF transaxle and a front hydraulic system to lift the car when needed. All for $133K and still available since April.

I'm sure your GT40 would sell within days of being put on the market at $169K with a 302/4bbl. Sounds good.

There is a lot more to my GT40 than meets the untrained eye. It would require a certain mechanical aptitude most likely to be lacking by most on this thread to be fully understood and appreciated. Then again pretty much everyone reading this thinks putting a giant mega hp stroker 427 with big fat sticky tires is the way to go with a MkI. Why not just rake it out with some big air shocks in the rear while you're at it.

Please, enlighten us, oh Great One.

If you could, please try to put it into layman's terms for those of us that don't have the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time and don't have the "mechanical aptitude" that you possess. And please speak slowly, so we can take notes at the foot of the alter, Oh Great One. :JEKYLHYDE

Oy vey.

Evan? Are you back so soon??

MHNCO 07-07-2016 12:06 PM

I'm not sure where to begin...

For starters.., no it does not have a Hemi!

Come on Bernica! You should know that these 1960's kit car replicas are extraordinarily complex mechanical marvels of engineering and require a doctorate in engineering from MIT to assemble, engineer/re-engineer, prep, test and make roadworthy.

That whole engine in the back thingee is mind blowing. Geez, I thought you would know that.

RodKnock 07-07-2016 12:21 PM

Or you could hire Olthoff Racing to do the whole shebang for under $10,000.

MHNCO 07-07-2016 01:08 PM

Dennis is the man. When it comes to engine in the back I'd suggest using him and not getting in over your heads.

No, it's called a trans----axle.

PS I do hold math and engineering degrees. That may help explain the prowess I suppose.

I keep sayin' it...I'm just a dumb-ass carpenter, but I do learn pretty quick.;)

I only do basic math, no multi-variable calculus for me.

So, here's a brand new RHD Gulf SPF GT40 in Hemmings asking $134,000. I assume it's fully optioned with the RHD and Gulf paint.

http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/...0/1774884.html

Add: $10,000 SBF engine
Add: $10,000 ZF transaxle
Add: $10,000 Olthoff install, parts & labor

And you got yourself a brand SPF Gulf GT40 for roughly $160,000 more or less. You can certainly spend more (or less) on a SBF. And you certainly can spend more (or less) on a transaxle.

Or you can buy a used red SPF GT40, assuming it's still available, for about $130,000. A seller can ask whatever they want for their goods, that's America. But only when a seller becomes motivated, will a deal be struck, often, substantially below their ask. ;)

True. I think you are light on the $10k for the engine and I never understood trans-axles.:p:LOL::LOL:
