There were no CAVs at Goodwood. There were at least three SPF cars.

SPF cars are nearly identical to originals. CAVs are not. Hence the disparity in value and resale.

Your fricken dreaming as SPFs are still kit cars/replicas!

MHNCO 07-04-2016 06:00 PM

Which part am I dreaming about? SPFs at Goodwood or having much better resale?

"Nearly identical"? Puh-leeze. Nonsense.

A car made in 2016 is simply not the same car that was built 50 years ago. Different materials, different company, different tools. SPF use to claim 90% parts "interchangeability", but were called on that BS. And now they claim 70% parts "interchangeability."

I will agree that the CAV's appearance isn't close and they don't have 'continuation" status, so the SPF's have far superior resale value, but then CAV's aren't $110,000-$115,000 rollers either.

Absolutely 100% correct!

The last sale on GT40s.com that I saw was asking $135,000 for an SPF GT40. The originals sell for millions. Replica versus original. Hillbank can ask $160,000 or whatever, and someone may pay it eventually, but resale will remain roughly in the neighborhood of $135,000-$150,000 (+/-), depending on build.

Why? SPF still makes them. You can order one right now, if desired. At least with the Shelby Cobra, Shelby American (actually a successor company, since they were partially bought by an outsider and then went public) still makes them.

Superformance isn't Ford. And Superformance pays Safir, who holds the trademark, a fee for each sale.

I did find this Shelby but it looks like it will take at least $220k to get one.

Yep....still a SPF and still a replica except for $80K name badge.

MHNCO 07-04-2016 07:55 PM

There's still time to sell your CAV and get an SPF.

Rodknocker can still unload that Kirkum and get one too.

dallas_ 07-04-2016 08:14 PM

Evan?

So Bob Bondurant has an ERA GT40 and he seems extremely happy in his car vs a SPF so maybe you should add that to your list...... Of course if you got the $$$ for a SPF then go for it. I'm sure Lance would love to sell you one...

MHNCO 07-04-2016 08:56 PM

There are those with SPF GT40s and then the other 99% who hate on those with SPF GT40s

Happy 4th of July

twobjshelbys 07-04-2016 09:00 PM

I thought ERA stopped making the GT40.

Well, I would take that up with a few folks like Trularin with an RCR here as well as someone else building one now. There is no hate here. Only the search for excellence within your means, should they be big or small.
