Smile GT 40 manufacturers

How many GT 40 manufactures are there? Where are they located? Where are their dealer located? I would like to visit and look at their kits & finished cars. Thanks

Dwight

Race Car Replicas (RCR) in Detroit, MI
ERA Replicas in Maine
Tornado Sports Cars in England
MDA in England (they have a North American dealer)
Bailey Edwards Cars (BEC) in Australia
DRB in Australia

Go to GT40s.com, join, and start asking questions. You'll get a lot of information you need there.

ERA Replicars is located in New Britain, Ct., about 30 minutes drive from the Hartford airport. You should contact Rob Ginn at McMichael Motorsports in Atlanta to check out the Superformance GT40, and contact Peter Portante at ERA in Ct., and visit their factory. McMichael will be able to show you a completed car, and at ERA you will be able to see the entire manufacturing process. Superformance will sell you a painted roller sans motor and trans., and with ERA it is your choice - complete component car for you to assemble - roller - painted roller - or turnkey, your choice. Have fun!

I must be getting old. I should have remembered CAV and SPF, especially the latter.

Hey Bill,
The most important thing is that you didn't forget RCR .
Baily Edwards cars are in S. Africa.

Smile Long trips in a GT 40

Hersh,
You drive your GT 40 a lot. Where do you put your luggage on long trips? Mike Lane is not going to build a GT 40 because someone told him there was no place for luggage. There must be a place that can be modified to hold a bag.

a Daytona has much more room than a GT40 and is much easier to drive with vision being much better. I like the looks of my GT40 better, but the Daytona is better to live with and travel in, it truly is a jump in and drive type of car. I have to think about where I need to go before I hop in the 40. I can fit a small soft bag in the front of my CAV. I can carry 2 golf bags in the Daytona.

Dwight,
Bill is right about the trailer. There are pictures of it in my gallery. That trailer is very comfortable. It has AC and a DVD player inside. The sleeping area is 48"X 84". Hauls a bunch.
There is a bunch of room in a forty less a trailer. Me and Bernie Knight traveled to the LCS from Phoenix and Back with our bags and several other items. I can't say much about the other brands of GT but the old RF I have has several spots to carry luggage. Under the front nostril we could fit two gym style bags. In the side door panels we could carry anything the size of a shaving kit. Also the are little compartments behind the tailights that hold quite a bit too. I carry my car cleaning items in there such as wax, rags, and spray bottles. I'm sure if your buddy was serious he would get creative just as we all do that own a GT. I've said it a thousand times and I mean it. The GT is the most fun car I have ever owned and I've owned a few.
Doc is right about the Coupe having more room for luggage. I do however must say that I personally had a very hard time climbing into that car. My wife liked to die laughing while she watched me contort myself to fit in. I never heard that woman laugh that hard before. I was kinda pissed when I managed to get out. She even laughed harder as I squirmed about getting out. But A guy built like me that weighs 250 lbs should not be getting into that type of car.
I wish all you guys that want or plan to buy one will try them out first. If I'm near anyone who wants to come and try out mine they are more than welcome to drive her around and see. At least you will have some idea as to how these cars feel on the road regardless of manufacturer.

I found the GT40 to be very comfortable and also placed some items under my legs such as 'T' shirts and bit and pieces I purchased at Rt. 66 museum etc.

I'm also 220lbs and found getting in and out no problem - once shown the easier way.....

Driving was fun and thats from a guy that drives on the right side normally.

Thumbs up

Dwight,
I was back there last september for the family reunion. We was at the park near the Wilson Dam where the helicopter is by the entrance. I forgot the name of the park. But you know, one of these days we will run into each other at a show or a cruise and if I have the GT with me then you are more than welcome to take it for a spin.

Question

Just wonder if it would be worth making the list of GT40 Kit Manufacturers a 'Sticky' in simple list format at the start of the GT40 page---- Names/ Ph No/ Country/ website only---- no advertising blurb! That way it could be added too/ deleted etc if reqd.

Smile Park

Veteran Park, yes it's about 4 miles from my house. Years ago it was called Wilson Park after Wilson Dam.
I was just picking at you because I remembered a few years back someone at London told me you were from Littleville. Missed you this year. See ya on the road someday.

Jack,
That may not be such a bad idea. I think a note to Brent might make it happen.
