You did the same thing I did with the safety wire around the wheel. I don't know what you used but I stripped the insulation off a piece black wire from a chunk of 14ga romex cable (house wiring).

Think the wheels are flat black powder coat. Craig may know as this was done pre-Bill.
My plan, CRAZY!
Going to sand blast the face of the wheels and make the centers gold so the earlier race car comes out.
Here is an example CSX3028, this is the look I will chase...
On my Gold car the wheels are oiled Magnesium so brake dust, oil and oxidation in color.

Use CRC Gasket remover to strip powdercoat... no sandblasting !!
