Holley needs to check their calibrations, I've had 2 carbs with the primary screws 1/2-3/4 turn out, and the secondaries 2+ turns out, and know of someone else who had the same setup. Also, the last carb had the butterflies closed with no t slot showing.
BossHemi429, since you are an advertiser for the ultra hp, can you explain this?

I've had Ultra HP, QFT and many other new carbs.
Not one has had a "correct setting" for the idle mixture and speed screws out of the box.

If you buy a custom carb through Braswell, AED, me, etc., then they should be closer than most, but they still need a little lovin'. You can't pull one out of the box, drop it on, and drive off into the sunset.

Well said!
I installed a pair of custom built matched 750cfm QFT's this spring and my engine has never run as clean and performed to this degree........ however I did tweak each carb.
I don't have an oxygen sensor or other fancy diagnostic tools. I tweaked based on; off-idle and constant speed characteristics, engine temperature, and reading spark plugs.
I made these changes:
a. adjusted idle.
b. increased jet size, primary and secondary.
c. changed accelerator pump discharge nozzle size.
d. adjusted secondaries opening rate.
e. verified idle mixture screw settings.
All of what I did may not be necessary for everyone's application, but tweaking can fine tune your engine's drivability. My wife remarked this weekend after driving for more than 100 miles, that her clothing has never smelled less CO contaminated.
