Default How do I attach the vacuum advance hose

I had my engine rebuilt 600 miles ago and I noticed it doesn't run well at low rpm's. I searched and saw the thread on vacuum advance possibly affecting this so I just checked and there is no hose running to my distributer. I know that before it was rebuilt it was hooked up. I searched around for somewhere to hook it up again and don't see where it could go. I have a Genisis FE iron block , Edelbrock Performer intake, Mallory Unilite distributer and a Holley 850 double pumper. There is a hose coming off the back of the carb going into the right valve cover with a PCV. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Chas

Check your distributor. If you have a vacuum advance unit it will have a pod attached to it with a nipple for a hose to attach to both the pod and your carb. If no pod, then you don't have a vacuum advance setup on your distributor or it is capped off by a rubber cap rending it inoperable.

My guess is you only have mechanical advance on that engine. I don't think that carb even has the outlets to connect a vacuum advance line if you did have a vacuum advance dizzy.

From the Holley web site for 850 CFM carbs.

•1 timed (spark) port, 1 full vacuum, and 1 PCV port

Is the "timed (spark) port the one that would connect to the vacuum advance on the dizzy?

If so, it should be in the front of the base plate for the carb.

Thanks Terry. I will go check it out. Jim, the distributer does have the vacuum pot on it. I am getting old but I know there was a hose to it before the rebuild last summer.

Terry, you were absolutely right. There is a nipple with a cover over it. I didn't see it the first time because the fuel lines block the line of sight. Thanks for the help. Now all I need to do is go buy some rubber hose and hook it up. Chas

Chas,

Make sure that you get vacuum line. It is thicker walled and will not collapse.

Make sure you use the manifold vacuum port for the advance, not ported.
