Default 390FE or 351w (stroked to a 427)

Would you rather a 390FE or 351w (stroked to a 427)? The 390FE would be more origanal than a 351w But there is a lot of great after market parts for the 351w. They are both great motors but I am unsure what I would rather have and would like to hear your opion.
Thanks,
Josh

This one seems clear. Is the priority, the best look, or lots of power in a lighter package.

The FE is more period correct and IMO will get you more ogling and resale value in the future.

The 390 can make big power with the right parts, as can the 351W. Parts are readily available for FE's these days...and it's easy to get 550hp and 550 lb-ft out of a 390 with a stroker kit and some good heads.

Where is a reasonable place to buy a motor from? Any good companies or websites?

I've been looking at this guys website and it seems he's done a ton of nice engines for different purposes and I would definitely consider him.

There are several good builders that advertise here. Keith Craft, Southern Automotive, Gessford Machine, are a few.

Bob
I was going to call them today. How was the service? Would you buy one again from them? What motor did you get from them? (stroked)

The 390 in my CSX is from Tuff Dawg as well. It has been flawless and I would buy another motor from them in a heartbeat.

I've called Tuff Dawgs a couple of times for support and they've been very helpful. Also, they welded an oil temperature bung in the side of the oil pan for me at my request for an additional $75. I felt that was reasonable considering the cost of an aftermarket pan.

Josh,

This is a good article that you may have seen. Its a 428FE vs 427W, but good SB/BB comparison.

http://www.mustangandfords.com/techa...est/index.html

I have to answer the exact question you do, 427W or an FE. It is very important TO ME to have 427 CI under the hood. The 427W makes all sorts of logical sense from a weight/fit standpoint, but the Corbra 427 is and always will be a big block car TO ME. I have decided to do the 428 FE (actully 426.5 CI) as it is MUCH less expensive than the 427 FE. I can afford a side oiler, but just can't justify the extra $10-12K (or more).

Mark

Make sure you invest in forged pistons.... I notice that many of their builds do not include them.

Go for alluminum heads as well, run cooler, more power, less weight.
