Default Eagle vs. Scat rotating ass.

Hey Keith,

Does it matter in a street 351W which product I pick? Any pros or cons to either in a mild 392 or 408 with AFR 185 heads. Looking for about 450 to 500hp at the crank. I may spray 100 shot. Is the Scat 9000 series cast crank as strong as they claim? Please recommend an assembly so I can stop shopping and get to building. Please recommend rods and pistons also. Any info greatly appreciated.

P.S. Really like the website its addictive.

later

I have a variety of components in my engine assembly, not exactly what you are indicating but close enough I guess.
1968 427 SO block, SCAT 428 crank(9000 series), Eagle connecting rods, Diamond racing pistons, Dove roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM Peformer FE heads, Blue Thunder DQ intake etc.
I just kept my "shopping eye" on the ball. When what I believed to be one of the better qulaity components (or close to it) was available, at the right price, I would pull the trigger. It took a few more months to bring it all together but I managed to save some bucks for other needs.
I sourced the purchases through a wide variety of suppliers, even got lucky enough to find a set of original Shelby valve covers at a garage sale.
I found a lot of sources just by talking to the guys on this website, tons of info if you ask. If interested I can turn you onto my crank and piston supplier, all NIB with mfg. warranties etc. The supplier was recommended by another CC member, ended up saving a little over $250 from usual listings on that purchase alone. Putting these parts together really adds up in a scary fast kind of way, if you know what I mean.
Good Luck.
Mark

They are both about the same in the quality of materials. The only difference we see, is that Scat seems to be a little better on the finishing quality control. Eagle is better about shipping on time.

I just put a Scat 9000 stroker crank in my 427 SO. It needed $200 of heavy metal to balance. My machinist said most Scat cranks need more work getting them to balance than Eagles do. Based on that, Eagle is going to be cheaper in the long run. Also, my rod clearance ran from .012 to .021...this was in the crank throw width, as the Eagle rods all measured the same.
Eagle rods also seem to have a better reputation...not in strength necessarily, but in quality control.
