Now that wouldn't be too far a stretch..kind of Cobra like. I recall Barry Mcguire( Eve of Destruction) had a Siata he had a sbc shoehorned into. That body on a Kirkham foundation has a lot of potential. I don't think it's that recognizable to most folks though. I'd like to see someone, I suggested it when the "What should the next car RCR builds" thread was on GT40s, make a replica of the original Mustang( midengine 2 seater). It should be easy to power with any number of front wheel powertrains. I know it wouldn't be longitudinal like the original, but it would definitely have more HP.
