Just throwing this out there, I've rented top notch NHRA tracks before, and they are charging you top dollar for the rental. That being said, limit the number of cars that can run, say 60. Charge 40.00 to run. If you can't fill the spots with Cobras, let the local Mustang club know you have the track rented and spots available. With 60 cars you'll never wait in line, and also after the first hour, the track wil be virtually empty most of the day. Just my 2 cents and the voice of experience.

I'm sorry to announce that the Cobra shootout at National Trails Raceway will not happen as I had planned it. However I talked with the track manager today and he told me that we could run in a special class Friday night (Cobra against Cobra) during their regularly scheduled event of open bracket racing. I think admission to race is between $10.00 and $15.00. If I have any energy left after setting up and running the autocross at ( tbd) I will try to lead the Cobras to the track from the hotels and back. Ill keep you all posted on the autocross details.

Gordon, Thanks for doing all of the footwork that you have done. If on Friday night we run against another Cobra which is faster, then we must pack up and go home after one run, is that correct ? What kind of tech inspection will they do ? Or do we do our own tech ? Thanks, John

Hey John,
In the past when I have been there, they incouraged all non winning cars to run time trials between rounds, to give the cars still in compitition a chance to cool down. Once when I went out in the first round, I was able to get ten runs in before they shut the track down for the night. Tech inspection is done at the track by official inspectors. It is a pretty general lookover. I have a very stock FFR MKI, the only thing they made me change was to add a radiator overflow bottle. I installed an antifreeze jug with wire ties and it is still under the hood to this day. Make sure that your crankcase breather is either vented to the intake manifold or a catch can. Also have a good helmet with you. They seem pretty lose until you break in to the 11 second zone, Then they may require a fire jacket and roll cage.

Gordon, thanks for the info. I know that I won't be any where near the 11 sec. time. I am just wondering what I may need to bring along. John

Hey John,
I always bring a cooler with food and drink, as they gouge you for both at the track. Last year there was a gas station near by that sold racing fuel. I pack a leather jacket for the return trip. Oh yea, and a full bottle of NOS. Are you driving or trailering from AZ?

I always drive. By the time that I reach the LCS I will have driven to 27 out of the 48 states. The remaining 21 states I will visit on my way home. I will have a lot of clothing for all kinds of weather and a cooler for drinks. John
