Default NY Accommodation

Hello,

My partner her sister and partner are planning to spend NYE in NY.

I thought I would ask the experts before I went to those other supposedly

Expert travel sites for accommodation ideas.

We would like to stay in NYC as we will not have transport, we don't

Need 5 star, just comfortable and clean ( more money for food and piss ).....

Any assistance would be appreciated,

Regards, Rohan Stiffy

The Warwick hotel is nice and reasonably priced. I believe it's on 55th or 56th street. My wife and I have stayed there several times

The closer you get to Central Park, the more things tend to cost. But, booking something just below the Park puts a lot of things within walking distance. You can also catch the on line "offers" and "packages" at some of the nicer joints. For instance, the Ritz on CP South. Ritz Hotel Package It's a beautiful place to stay if you're in the mood to splurge a little. If you're hopping around NY, and you're not taking the subway, the cab fares will nip at you. For instance, the Statue of Liberty is down at the bottom by Battery Park -- the cab rides will cost you more than boats over to the island. But, you'll be able to pick up as many fake Rolex watches as you can carry to bring back to your buds as souvenirs. They sell them right in the open from suitcases (no, I'm not kidding). It's a fun town -- you'll really enjoy it, and it's much more fun than Washington, DC. Safer too.

Wish I could add something useful but there is no rhyme or reason to pricing.

First off even though it's going to be frigging cold it's holiday time. During December all the Christmas decorations are out and the closer you get to Christmas the more the costs. The hotels are into overdrive at this time.

Check out tripadvisor or something like expedia...there are many. Just get an idea because those rates are going to be killer during this time.

Maybe an expert is the way to go.

Also note there are two or three timeshare hotels in Manhattan that you can look into. Sometimes people rent their timeshares in these places. I know a few that have used them as an alternative.

Good luck

I stayed here recently:

Courtyard New York Manhattan/Central Park: New York Business Hotels

It's located on the corner of 54th & Broadway, which I thought was a less-busy location about 5-ish blocks from Central Park and about roughly 8-ish short blocks to Times Square and theater district. I thought the price was reasonable all things considered.

Edit: Oh, and it's all brand new. Just opened December 2013.

Make sure you stop in for a bite at the Carnegie Deli. Order light; servings are huge. Carnegie Deli | Home

As a Manhattan resident, I will tell you New York City is Manhattan. Don't believe the travel books about the other boroughs (brooklyn, queens, bronx, Staten Island), if it is not in Manhattan, it ain't worth going (unless it is Yankee Stadium or Statue of Liberty).

If you want the NY NYE experience, I'd suggest stay at the Marriott at Times Sq. The hotel faces the 'ball' drop. Marriott hosts one of the big ticket NYE parties.

Also, checkout the Hilton, mid-town; it's near Radio City, MOMA.

I would not stay at any hotel above 126th street; there ain't nothing to do up there.

Look for hotels with known reputations. The reason I'd recommend a chain hotel is u know what u getting. W, Ritz, Hilton are known brands; they have a standard and NYC has its own standards:

U can't be cheap in NYC. it's expensive city for everything- hotels, dining, drinking, entertainment. Also, have CASH for tipping. The bigger your tip, the better u will be treated

Bring winter coats and snow boots. It's cold in Dec/January!
Leave the fancy jewelry home! Trust me on this. New York criminals can spot easy marks.

With that, u and your family will have an awesome time in NYC! It's the best city any time u visit (except Feb, March, August).

Nah,

Just stay at NYG's place. He will be glad to have them. Do the own a Nissan Leaf? They'll get along fine. Be sure they place the room service breakfast order early.

September is the perfect month to visit the Big Apple. Weather is perfect and most of the tourists have gone home.

I'm not familiar with your hotel but there ain't many bad hotels in upper mid-town. Too much money there for bad hotel service.

You're smacked in the center of high society entertainment (Broadway theatres, 30 Rock, MOMA, 5th Ave., St. Peters, Columbus Circle, and Central Park.) the area gets busy during work hours but after happy hour, u will have more "elbow" room to roam.

Avoid taxis and subways. Just walk the city. The Island is tiny, looks bigger because of all the skyscrapers.

Have fun!

We have been to NYC a few times and the last was for NYE. We stayed for 5 days (3 before and 2 after) and found that Club Quarters was good for location, overall facility and price (1/2 that of even a holiday inn on W57th.

Midtown Manhattan Hotels - Club Quarters - NYC Corporate Apartments & Extended Stay Hotels

All good advice as above, NYC on NYE was the coldest I have ever experienced in my life, best off packing at least a scarf.

Thanks NYG and Leroy
Should be a good trip and hope to pick up some goodies for the cobra whilst there. Thinking of getting a MSD efi system for the windsor 302 as had some issues with the Holley. Must admit it wasnt all the Holleys fault. Some was bad fuel. Hoping the MSD might simplify tune up!
