I'm using a mobil 1- 301 or redline- 3001 (they are the same filters inside) just depends what the car parts place has in-stock. I used an Amsoil for the break-in period and was happy with it, but haven't beeen squared away enough to purchase another Amsoil in advance. From looking at the differnet reports all three are good. Cost is similar enough for me.

With the oil change one thing that is different between the Mobil1 10w-40 and Mobil1 15w-50 was about 15psi more oil pressure with the thicker stuff. More than I thought it would be.

Yeah overkill for the VW fiter- but is there such thing as overkill for an oil filter?
