The top tiers are still the tops: Shelby, Superformance, ERA, Kirkham (if you can afford aluminum)
The rollers from Backdraft etc would be the next level.
A home built kit you're at the mercy of the skills of the assembler. You need careful inspections by qualified builders, not just someone that goes and kicks tires and looks for smoke coming out of the tailpipe.
For all of them you're really want to know who built/installed the power train since those are separate from the car and the skill sets there very widely too. Cars with power train installed by those that frequent this forum get bonus points.
You don't say what your budget is. But in general, the more you can spend the better the overall experience will be.
