Bernie,
Every time I look through their cars I come up with a shopping list. Unfortunately my desires far exceedes my ability to pay. Next time you are over there go to their on-line car show and look at the Cobras and other cars they have. I don't know where they got some of them as I have never sent any of my cars pictures to them or any other magazine except the Fairlane Club of America. But they have some great cars in there and you can hunt by make, model, year, & etc.

Whew, Im back.
Now I hope you enjoyed the piece and some what correctness of spelling over the past few weeks but now we can wake this place back up..
We traveld to Colorado (Pikes Peek was CLOSED!) did everything arond there and decided to move on.
We named the Royal Gorge, "The Royal Gouge" It cost $ 70.00 to see it. We had seen it before but the kids needed to see it so we got the shaft, I am sorry, we saw the bridge.
Off the Yellowstone. If you have never been there it is beautiful. The last time we went (pre kidoes) was one week before the big fires in the mid eighties. The parks has not recovered very well. Hundreds of thousands of acres are still baren as if the fire just happened. NO reforestaion has been implaminted. There was another fire in 2003 that destroed over one hundred and fifty five thousand acres. Not in the same area as the first fire. The roads were closed due to major rock slides from the winter snow melt and existing snow in the mountains. Yes we saw old faithfull do its thing. That is really a site to see if you have not seen it. The Ranger was telling us that since Mt St Helens eruted in 1980 that the regularity of "old Faithfull" had changed. It now does it thing every 92 minites (sp). Before it spewed evey 28 mins. You can look up old faithfull on the web and seeit live from your desk. I will find the link and post it later. The park was still very nice and pieceull. No bears, loads of elk, moose and buffalo.
My daughter ask about why Mt St Helens could change the way Old faithfull was "regular". I had no idea the real answer so we decided to find out.
Off we went to Mt St Helens. Yea I know it is a long way from Yellowstone. But what the heck. We were having a blast and the drive was not a bad drive so we took off. Mt St Helens is located in beatuful country. We spent the whole day on the mountain. WOW. That was a BIG ERUPTION. When the land slide stared it was the largest landslide in the history of the world. The lake that was close by,I can't think of the name now. The floor of the lake rose 300' above the surface of the old lake. So it rose almost 400' up. The debries was traveling 390 miles and hour for 17 miles from the mountain. Trees with a diamiter of over twenty feet were shreded into toothpiks in seconds.
We decided to come down the Oregon coastline and see all the lighthouses. Carrie, my wife loves lighthouses so we went on some lighhouse tours. very interesting way of life for those folks.
We came down the caostline into Redwood natl forest. Now that is a beautiful place. The coast on one side and thousand year ols redwood trees on the other.
Down into Yosimte natl forest. The mountains in Yosimte are very nervracking to drive in. We spent alot of time looking at the wonderfull views. It is amazing how big the trees are. We had seen nothing yet.
Sequia Natl forest is by far the most beautiful place we visited. The trees are several thousand years old and are over 150' around at the trunks. Some are almost 275 feet tall. We saw all the really large trees and the largest living thing on earth, a tree. It literally takes your breath away to stand in front of it. Two hundred feet off the ground it is still over one hundred feet in diamiter. It has branches larger than most trees in Texas. What a site to behold.
from there we headed home. Went though Las Vgas, Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns,Grand Canyon and just saw the country side.
It was a wonderfull trip. All told 5,885 miles on the old truck. No problems at all. Killed one bird, (it was his fault I swear), and about seven hundred million bugs. We had to wash the truck three times while on the road.
Yes we saw Mt Rushmore and alot of other things. I can't put them all in here it would take two weeks to read it all. We had fun, I enjoyed the kids and now it's back to reality. The grass is two feet tall inthe yard so that is todays plan.
I'll post some pictures later in my gallery. We have some really neat pictures of my f250 in a tree.
Kristen:
Talkie bird...... I resemble that remark!
BTW: I thied to spell check and fix some typoes but when I do it types over the next letter. So I can't fix the spelling, sorry.

Welcome back Steve!
School is OUT!
Kristen, prices for an original thunderbolt start at about $100,000 and go up from there depending on the racing history. They're not even street legal (Just open headers for exhaust.)
Do any of you get the Mustang and Ford Trader? I have one from about 5 years ago, but I can't find a website for it and the stores around here don't sell them.
Ron, how about a link to the fairlane owners site
Need to get a work perment so I can eork towards getting that Fairlane. Or Falcon. Or Mustang. Or.... what ever I decide on getting. Too many ideas running around in my head. BB vs SB, AT vs 4 Speed 5 Speed, girls, Black vs Maroon vs Wimbeldon White, girls, i think my brains gonna seize up.

Steve,
Glad to se you back and that you had a great trip. Man am I old. When I went to the Royal Gorge the ride down the tram was free. I haven't been to Yellowstone or Mt. St. Helens after the big blow, but all of the other places I have. I worked at Yosimitie (spelling) when I was in college. Loved that place. Sequia is a really great place and those trees can kind of make you feel small can't they? Do they still have the small rail fence around the largest living tree? And did you go through the tunnel tree? Boy, that was a great trip and one that everyone should take.
Mike,
I take the Mustang/Ford Trader. I just received the July issue a couple of days ago. I am not sure that they have a web site as the only one that shows up is www.collectorcartraderonline.com
Their number for subscriptions is 800-877-6141.

Mike,
I missed you asking about the Fairlane site. Right now it isn't much as they are in the process of making it more like Club Cobra so people can post and interact on it, but that is a ways off as they are really not sure how to go about it. But the site is www.fairlaneclubofamerica.com
Tru,
I have a 350 Chevy engine complete that I got for $30 dollars. Brand new. Just couldn't afford the car that it should have been in.

Mike,
Just do a search and type in Fairlane. I found a lot of sites and some good buys, plus some junkers. Even a few Thunderbolt Clones. In the mean time, maybe the car below will get you by until you can build you one. Heck, even Kristen would be impressed if you drove up in this one. And the guy that sold it has another one that is valued at just over $2 mill.

Ron,
Yes they still have the fence up. They have just put a new one up for this year. It looks so nice up there.
Those trees made me feel so insignificent. The young ones are 2100 years old. I can't remember which tree by name, but one tree is large enough, that if you made 1 x 12's out of the trunk alone it would span the USA from coast to coast.
They have it pretty much blocked off so you can't get right up to the larger trees. Once I thought about it I understood why. It seems in years gone by people would carve their name into the trunks. That type of wound will never heal itself, ever. I can't say enough how impressed I was at the shear size of those trees.
They do not make good lumber for construction thanks goodness, or they would all be gone. They are brittle and most often shatter when they fall to the ground. I guess I would shatter if I fell 300' as well.
It was absolutly breath taking. One tree the "General Sherman" tree is so large it takes 7 minutes just to walk aroung it, at a brisk pace. It is the largest living thing on Earth and is impressive.
We purchased one of its offspring. $6.95 it will survive in our climate. Only problem is it takes a tad over 100 years to be 100' tall, a tad over 1,000 years to be 200' tall and atad over 2,000 years to be 275 feet tall. I guess i'll miss that part.
Well I got the yard mowed. I went to get some water out of the water dispensor on the frig in the garage and the water tank broke and started to flood the garage. I turned the water off and cleaned up a small water mess on the garage floor. Could you imagine if it was the iside frige two weeks ago and run the whole time. Lucky me.

Steve,
I remember the General Sherman well. I have spent many weekends in that park when I was young. And I agree, those trees really tend to make you feel insignificent. We used to have to watch for people trying to get pieces of bark off the trees to take home as well as the carving of names.
Boy, you did luck out on the water tank deal. With my luck it would have busted about 15 minutes after I left. I need to mow again but have spent the past four days cutting rose bushes. Boy, I hate cutting those things, but it had to be done. Now my hands and arms look as if I have ran them through a meat grinder. But my neighbor came over and hauled them over onto his 2 acre back lot to stack with his limbs and stuff that he will burn next Fall when they will let us burn again. I was going to mow tomorrow but they are calling for rain and it is very dark and overcast here now and really feels humid.
I will be looking forward to the pictures as it has been a long time since I was at any of those parks, and I never did make it to Yellowstone.

I did not make it to Shasta lake but it took us three days to get through California. We took our time and stopped at all the tourist traps to visit. Boy did we have fun.
I had forgotten how long it took to get through California. We only got lost two times on the whole trip and both were in California. We somehow ended up in the olive groves, then the orange groves, then the .... well you get it. When you get outside of town there are NO SIGNS AT ALL! Get this we even ask a policeman and he had no idea where the highway was. There was a wreck and it was a fairly bad one. We saw a firetruck on the side on the road. The guys were looking at maps on the front fender of the firetruck. That was scary huh.
We took well over 400 pictures. Those digital cameras are great. We can print the ones we want and store the rest for later.
Wew colud not get all the large trees into one picture so we had to put several together. We di manage to get General Sherman, General Grant, and Centinal into one picture. When you back up far enough to get the whole tree into the picture the people standing by them look like ants. It is a very humbleing experiance.
Yellowstone is a beautiful place, or at leats it used to be. I hate to say this but it really was kinda dissapointing. Olny because of the fires though. I really hate to say that but it is true. They should have planted new trees in the 80's and the forest would have been grown back by now. As their plan goes it will not be grown back in my lifetime. That is sad by anyones account.
I have the disk in my hand an I will try to load some pictures in my gallery. I will try. I have not doen that before.
I hate to get off subject here but I was truely amazed by the size of these trees. You would think I have never seen one.

That is why you should always turn the water supply line off at the source if you have an icemaker/water frig.. As well as turn off the water to your water heater...shut the power off too so you don't burn the heater out, and make sure your laundry washers water supply is also off if you are leaving for an extended stay...FWIW

The water was turned off in the house while we were gone. This all happened when we turned everything back on when we returned home.
I learned that lesson several years ago when a water heater went south while we were gone for the weekend.
Yea we did all the right things and the house was ok while we were gone. Just got lucky it was the frig in the garage and not on the slate floor in the kitchen.
The set back T-stats were great as well, we could hold the temp at a higher # while we were gone and call the house while we were out and program them so the house to be cool when we got home. Now THATS neat!

Hey, when you guys leave for an extended period of time, do you drain the water system?
Everytime we have gone for any peruiod of time, I have a house sitter visit the house and check things. So, I haven't left the house actually alone, I was wondering what people do for extended periods like a month or so.
