Fellow Ignorian's,

I've been pretty busy as of late, but now I'm back with an important update.

Yes-CARS MADE OUT OF CHEESE!

The automobile is in for a cheesy future

Saturday, September 6, 2003 Posted: 11:57 AM EDT (1557 GMT)

Cleveland, Ohio (AP) -- The US Department of Energy and US Department of Transportation have teamed up with the Center for Cheese Engineering Research & Development (CCEDR) to help improve automobiles using advanced cheese technology.

Recent advances in cheese materials have led the DOT and DOE to take interest in using cheese to build automobiles. A new collaboration with CCEDR plans to investigate implementing cheese into automobile design and manufacturing. New automobiles made with cheese parts would be environmentally friendly, fuel efficient and quite tasty.

So far the major automobile manufacturers have not yet latched on to the idea of making cars out of cheese. Ford Motor Company press secretary Thomas Haskel remarked, "I don't know our official stance on cheese cars, but it just seems impractical to me. I mean, would you want to grate up a car engine and put it on your spaghetti?"

Ramachandran Subbaraman, a lead researcher at the CCEDR, points out that most recent advances in cheese material technology are not well know to the public. He states, "If you can make it out of plastic, not only can we make it out of cheese, we can make it better."

Brian Kienitz, Director of the CCEDR has a clear vision for the automobiles of the future. "I can foresee a future were cars are made up entirely of cheese. The car will ride on cheese wheels and run off a cheese fuel cell. Even the seats could be made of specially designed molded cheese polymers. With the continued support of the DOT and DOE, we at CCEDR believe we can have a complete operating car entirely made of cheese ready for production in under 10 years . Although some modifications may have to be made for the lactose intolerant."
