Tony, Thanks heaps for the wonderful advice. I did contact an attorney, he kind of put me off. Then it actually turns out he works for the writers of the policy. The good, and bad faith is something for me to work on. I appreciate the advice to not give in, or give up. It is a policy I have follwed all of my life. Like that damned toothless TOY POODLE chewing on your pant leg shaking his head, and growling. Trying to drag you down the hallway.....THAT'S ME.....LOL

Not a toy poodle, Brudda. No way.
Ignorance is simply lack of data, a far cry from stupidity.
Pursue your quest for "the right thing,."
Become a butt-ugly Oklahoma pit-bull.
Grab onto some a$$ and don't let go and NEVER stop shaking. even if they find a way to cut your head off.
Don't just survive, prevail, my Cobra Brudda.

Just kidding about the poodle...LOL. I figure if I can hang on to the bow of a 30ft sailboat. While it is dropping off of 20 foot waves. Changing a headsail with one hand for the ship, and one hand for myself. A waterfall coming from the bill of my cap, and a smile on my face. Alone with the grayest of days. Then this is a piece of cake......just frustrating as hell to be treated this way.

Yes, I finally did, and my sailing time expanded greatly. The catamaran head, and staysail are both roller furled. I am thinking about roller furling the main for when I leave Florida for Hawaii, and home to SF.

The first time the insurance for my 41' Lord Nelson came up for renewal after the 2 hurricanes that hit the northern Gulf Coast,I was told they were getting out of the boat insurance business.Had the same companiy for 10 years. Those 2 hurricanes drove a lot of companies out.
Found another company and they required a new survey too.Pain in the A$$.
That agent certainly did you wrong.
Good to know there are other sailors onboard here.

It has been 4 long, and nervous months since my ordeal with my agent. The state's insurance commissioner's office has finally made a decision. In their letter they say on technical terms the agent has done no wrong, but on other terms they cannot voice an opinion. Sounds to me like advice to get a lawyer?
I assumed this would be their decision from the beginning, but gave it a chance anyway. Although even more unethical actions have popped up in their research. I will be asking for copies of everything from the state, and then search for a lawyer.
I am finding the only company that will insure my boat is the one I had, and it turns out they are banned from writing policies in Florida accordding to the SIC's office. My research continues on resolving this problem. By Monday I will put some coals to the dying embers. I am not one to just turn my cheek, or walk away. All ideas are welcomed........

Brudda, don't put coals on the dying embers, that's what your adversaries want, that means that "they win." They can contain a small fire.
Throw kindling on, and rebuild the fire!
Maybe you have to play the "my attorney is smarter than your attorney" thing.
That company can no longer write policies in Florida? Somebody at the State level is watching, it appears.
Get all the information you can about the company, and by all means, retain an attorney! (I've heard almost all the lawyer jokes, but I still have my two Rottweilers on retainer, this is the 21st Century!)
A Mustang club I belong to, the Oklahoma DeadHorse Mustangs, has a motto:
"You can't Beat a DeadHorse."
Luck, Brudda.

uncltodd,
I am now requesting all information from the state's insurance commissioner's office. I have layed out a time line, and all e-mails, letters, and calls, passed back, and forth between myself, and all companies involved. I think I'll soak that kindling in some gasoline first......LOL

I may have missed in the postings, have you presented your documented case to the Attorney Generals office, i.e. Consumer Protection etc etc. ? They may have a different perspective than the Insurance Commissioner, either civil or criminal. Seems that AG awareness and involvement is a catalyst for resolution.
i had an incident a number of years ago in another state that after contacting the Attorney General's office, all the obstacles to resolve disappeared and timely communication became the norm. Fortunetly, at the start I had used certified/registered US Mail, with delivery return receipt , to add creditability to the time line, probably not too late to start with the agent and Insurance Company.
In an earlier posting the policy effective date & time, cancellation/renewal notice etc was mentioned. Has the agent and insurance company referenced the policies' specific clauses ( fine print ) governing these actions ?

Don, The insurance company told me right off that my broker is my broker. The agent claims my check arrived a day late, and in fact it did, but only because I was waiting on his response to my complaint. 2 years earlier he accepted my check 2 weeks late because I was out of the country. I will contact the attorney general after I recieve my request of all papers from the I.C's.O. I do have receipts for all mail, and checks recieved, and delivered that proves my timeline.I even have e-mail showing a conflict of what an agent claims, and what the insurance company provided...thnx
