Yesterday was a good day. Got 2 e-mail scams. I was thinking about getting a throw away e-mail address and answering all the scams and lead all of these crooks on a wild goose chase. I love the reverse scam about the guy who sold an Apple Powerbook to a crook in England. Got him good. I'll see if I can find the link.

I have several throw away e-mail addresses that I use when I am corresponding with some place that I don't want to keep in touch with. When I am done I just delete that address and build another one.

The lotteries always fail to mention the "processing" fees for the sweepstakes. Oh, and they won't let you deduct them from your winnings -
fancy that!

Most of these (~70%) are "captured" by the spam filter at the ISP. But I go on their website every few days and log on to my remote mail server and check the "screened mail".

If I had the time to answer all of them, I'd be richer than Bill Gates.

I just set my spam filter to automatically delete them. I may miss a legitimate e-mail once in a while, but even when I turn it on to save them I just don't hardly ever get any. Guess I am just doomed to remain poor.

Reading them is ok but it your answering them that has gotten you all of then fun reading. I still think setting up a phony bank account, working with your bank of course, and then using a throw away e-mail name would be some fun. Just tell them your bank requires a good faith deposit of $1K in order to transact that kind of business.

When I was in the banking business we tried something similar to that. The spam was going to the Bank CEO and it was many times everyday.

He got the Feds involved and they set up a sting. They actually took over the email responses so we do not know what they said. The Kids were 13 and 14 years old from Korea. They told the Feds it was only the second time they had been caught in six years.

Do the math on how old they were when they started.

It seems more and more of that stuff is coming from Korea now. I used to trace a lot of it and was surprised at how many originated over there. Oh well, I guess they need the money. They have arrived in the present for sure. When I was last there, an Ox and cart were the main means of transportation except right in Seoul.
