That reminds me of a place in SF. Fantastic burger with a whopping price tag. I think their motto was CHUCK GRINDS HIS MEAT DAILY. It was in a cable car setting.

Grinding your own really isn't all the difficult - and you really don't need one of those meat grinders (although..they are really sweet..) a food processor works fine -- just need to pulse and not puree it. Then you know exactly what you put in it - and don't have to worry about bacteria and really don't have to worry about how rare you get the burgers.

Bernie, working with the spouse isn't easy. After nearly four years of travelling on our boat we did good. Then I opened this shop, and we worked together for 3 months, not so good. I had to fire her, and now we get along AGAIN!

When the stores have sales on the large end cut of Prime Rib, I buy a chunk or two and grind it up for hamburger.
It's not Kobe beef, but it's still the best hamburger you can make.

Decades ago, when I was a poor man (wait, I still am ) I ate a LOT of White Castle burgers. Seems to me they were much better than the ones I've had recently on the mainland. Either my memory has slipped or their burgers have.
L and L drive in, Waianae, Hawaii, plenty lettuce, tomato, onion rings, yup, gonna need a double order of napkins. There 'ono' (very good).

The best "bought" burgers that I have had come from Di Lillo's in the Montreal area. They use a mixture of beef, pork, and possibly lamb??? They virtually deep fry the meat in it's own fat so it is very juicy. They are served upside down in a paper wrapper.
I also had a good burger and excellent onion rings in Hawaii. I am not sure about the name of the restaurant but I think it was Bubba's and their slogan was "We only cheat drunks, tourists, and attorneys".
Sorry Bernie but I gave up on McD's burgers many years ago. They do have a decent breakfast however. Of the chains, Wendy's have the best burgers. There is a Canadian chain called Harvey's that used to have fairly good burgers but they have gone down hill probably due to cost cutting to remain competitive with the bigger chains.
